Coldplay Hits Back -- We Stole Nothing

Chris MartinColdplay is finally striking back at the guitarist who claims the band's song "Viva La Vida" is a rip-off with this simple message -- tough luck.

In a statement to TMZ, the band says:

"With the greatest possible respect to Joe Satriani, we have now unfortunately found it necessary to respond publicly to his allegations. If there are any similarities between our two pieces of music, they are entirely coincidental, and just as surprising to us as to him. Joe Satriani is a great musician, but he did not write the song Viva La Vida. We respectfully ask him to accept our assurances of this, and wish him well with all future endeavors. Coldplay."

1. Cold Play is a "Teenie Bobber Band" I am surprised they even get air play on "Rock" stations. lets seperate "Pop" bands and their adoring 13 year old fans ,from true rockers that listen to Satriani and real musicians that have earned the respect of fans like myself!!!!!!
Just saying............

2. I'd rather listen to 1000 hours of Satriani than 10 seconds of Coldplay.

3. The two songs have some similarities in a few brief spots if you've listened to both of them in their entirety; but the overreaching difference is that one is a steaming pile of unsuccessful garbage and the other has sold millions.

4. Usually in these kind of cases, I don't see the similarities in music. But, this case is different. When they had the commercials advertising the album, they were very impactful. The song, Viva La Vida, was so different from the other songs they have created. There is no way to listen to both and say they did not steal it.

5. Coldplay is the worst. Music that puts you to sleep. Wuss Rock for the masses.

6. The similarity is way to close to be a COINCEDENCE.

As we all knew all along Coldplay has ZERO talent

Cheers!

7. If you take the time to listen to both songs...there is no way that Coldplay came up with this song on their own. The evidence is overwhelming. I think Joe Satriani will definitely have his day in court. Coldplay, good luck with that.

8. the songs are far too similar. it's no coincidence.
sorry Coldplay. we're not buying it.

9. Chris Martin hasn't come up with one original idea yet. Between Dave Matthews and U2, and now Joe Satriani, every single note that's come out of his band has been derivative. Knock-offs, and poor-quality ones at that. If I never hear a peep out of him again it will be too soon. On and on about his craft and his artistic integrity. Blech!! Gimme an effin' break. No, thank you.

Posted at 3:36PM on Dec 9th 2008 by coldplay? no, thank you

10. 'similar' is one thing, but this is the SAME EXACT SONG. coldplay is full of crap on this one.. whoever 'wrote' their song stole it.

11. Coldplay's, Viva La Vida sounds nothing like all their other crap. They should've ripped off Satch's entire record. It would look a lot less suspicious than what they're left with now, a song that sticks out like a sore thumb in midst of all their other mediocre crap.

12. Of COURSE their mouthpieces are going to issue a "WE DIDN'T DO IT" statement, but it doesn't change the fact that Coldplay totally (and stupidly) ripped off Satriani. Coldplay totally sucks and how could they be soooo stupid to think he wouldn't notice and come after them? What nimrods/

13. It was coincidence. It happens all the time. Coldplay are music genious. Mediocre my ass.

14. It's a miracle. Two different pieces of music with the same tune. Just own up to it Coldplay. Share the royalties.

15. Chris Martin sure likes seconds, doesn't he? Coldplay SUCKS!!
