Will Brown Be Charged with Beating Rihanna?

3/1/2009 5:23 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Now that Rihanna has apparently decided to forgive Chris Brown for that unfortunate beat down, the burning question is whether Chris will beat the rap.

Rihanna and Chris Brown
Here's the lowdown. We're hearing the case will be turned over to the Los Angeles County D.A. next week, and a decision should be made soon thereafter on whether to file criminal charges against him. The two most likely charges: Making criminal threats and domestic violence.

As for a possible criminal threats charge, we think it's now less likely the D.A. will file because of Rihanna's change of heart. First of all, sources tell us the main reason he was arrested for this is because he allegedly told Rihanna something to the effect of, "I'm going to kill you." It's a terrible thing to say, but lots of people say it in the heat of battle, so it's thin to begin with. Add to that -- Rihanna may well testify she never believed he meant it and the case looks a bit lame.

Domestic violence is a whole other thing. When the jury sees the pictures of a clearly battered Rihanna, it's probably more powerful than any testimony she'd give. In fact, if she were to get on the stand and say she started the fight or somehow deserved it, it would not ring true ... especially because he was hardly the worse for wear when he was busted.

And there's this ... given the picture, it's going to be a tough call not to prosecute Brown.

Finally, we're told more than half of the D.A.'s domestic violence cases involve women who have either recanted their stories or have gotten back together with the alleged abuser.

We think a decision could come down sometime next week.

So if I understand this right self defense can never be a defence? A woman can never start a fight. If she does and looses it's the guys fault. I do not believe that the person that wins a fight is necessarly the person resposible for the fight. If I take the first punch and loose and get a black eye for it, I would still consider myself responsible for starting the fight. As things stands now, I don't have enough info to judge either way.

this story gets fishier by the day. i strongly suspect therefore that SHE likely started hitting HIM in the face while he was driving - hence he bit her to get her to stop (so he wouldn't have to take his hands off the wheel). I suspect some of her injuries were from Chris DEFENDING himself - which is why she is keen to make up with him now.

This is a joke. I honestly thought that no one would vote for Chris Brown, but to my surprise some of you are actually defending him and bagging her! This is how f***** up we have become as a society, that there are people that condone this and even make excuses for his behaviour! She is a victim of domestic violence and is suffering from what many female victims suffer from, battered woman's syndrome. They love their partner so much and are so easily manipulated by them that their partner makes them believe that either it was their fault or they promise to never do it again, or continue to threaten them and they are believed. They will do it again. She is still the victim, but is just very messed up. She needs support not condemnation. In Australia the police press charges against the perpetrator on behalf of the victim because so many women return to their partners and this prevents the perpetrator from getting away with it. Even if the victim does not testify, the arresting officer can testify on behalf of the victim and get a conviction.

The really sad thing is that over 3100 people responded to this poll thinking that Brown should not be prosecuted. 11%!! Unbelievable.

That Rihanna has returned to her abuser is a baffling yet all too common reality with abused women.

If she goes back to him...they deserve each other. If the violence happens again-- please don't let us know about it, because most folks hate stupid people no matter what their excuse. I am so sick of celebrity idiots!

I'm so fed up with the people defending and justifying domestic violence, that I'm starting to think,
fine, let 'em all beat each other up and remove themselves from the gene pool.
Darwinism at it's best...

i honestly think the press is adding extra onto everything as usual but for people to be goin around sayin they hope his career end and people talking about putting hits out on chris brown is highly ignorant ok abuse is never ok i know that but for a lot of you people saying yall hope his career end is dumb in my books let them solve their own problems because there's so many other abuse cases out there but you don't see them getting aired on tv and most talked about on the interenet or the number topic in magazines but because these two ppeople in particular are famous eveybody thinks its there problem too and that they have everyright to add there non sense inoputs in everything that comes up..... why don't you guys go find some people that been abused worse then rihanna and believe me there are a lot out there that has and try to help them... trust me when i say chris brown is a very sweet boy i hung out wit him almost every weekend at a place called the blic zone watching him buck dance and having fun now she must have done something real bad to set him off like that because the boy is a true church boy how do you think he got discovered??? in his church but like i said maybe all need to jus back off of them because it might jus be making it harder for them to recover with everybody in their business

Chris Brown should be prosecuted and she should go to counseling to help her deal with the issue. This time she is lucky to only have facial bruises...next time she may end up dead. Domestic violence and abuse whether physical, sexual, verbal or emotional abuse should not be taken lightly whether you are a celebrity or not. Find someone else Rhianna..you are beautiful on the outside as well as your heart and your music. Take time away from him to recognize what lies in your future. The first step of prosecuting someone you have feeling for is the hardest, but when it is all behind you, you will be thankful for those of us who care and support you with prayer that you too will break the circle of violence in the home. I know, been there, done that.

I lost all respect and sympathy for Rihanna. What a weak woman to go back to an abuser.
