Rihanna -- Do You Swear to Tell the Truth ... ?

6/22/2009 3:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Chris Brown, RihannaRihanna has a big date with Chris Brown today ... along with a judge, a few lawyers and a courtroom full of onlookers.

RiRi is set to take the stand as a witness against Chris Brown in his preliminary hearing, which begins at 1:45 PM PT.

Rihanna's testimony is hugely important. Will she stick to the story she told cops the night of the beating? Rihanna said Brown had beaten her before and the violence was escalating.

One big question -- will Brown's lawyer, Mark Geragos, cross-examine Rihanna? We're told if the case goes to trial Geragos will make a big point that Rihanna was the initial aggressor, repeatedly hitting him before he began pounding on her.

Also hugely important ... the photos of Rihanna's battered face. We've published one pic graphically showing the brutality of the beating. But we're told that photo pales by comparison to photos taken the next day after the bruising and swelling settled. Those photos will almost certainly be introduced into evidence during the prelim.

The judge has rejected TV or livestream coverage. We'll have constant updates.

I really hope she does the right thing and tells the truth about what happened that night. if the story i just read on cnn recounting the whole incident is completely true, i honestly believe chris deserves jail time and a huge blow to his career. look at mike vick, he got jail time and lost his contract because of dog abuse, so brown deserves worse. this reinstated why i have yet to listen to anymore of brown's music, and i used to love him! it's truly such a shame.

I have a feeling this kid is going to walk free without paying any penalty for his brutality! Man, if a girl hits you, WALK AWAY you don't pummel her to near death & walk away to leave her for dead! Lawyers, care more about winning than truth & facts, which by the way truth & fact are not the same thing!!!

Get A Life

Why is it that just about everyone has convicted Chris Brown before he has had a jury trial? There are ALWAYS 2 sides to every story people. I am not saying that is was right for him to hit her BUT if she kept hitting him and talking mess I can understand. Women think they have the right to push a man's buttons by either hitting him or using words to anger him and expect the man to just take it and that is not right. We should not be juding this sad incident or pointing the finger at either of them. NOT ONE of us was in that car so no one knows what happen but them, its her word against his. The news and gossip sites need to tell the truth that young man is hurting and so is Rhianna. As far as the pictures fo Rhianna face was not that bad it look like she had been slapped and hit her forehead on the dash board. It did not look like Chris took his fist and hit her. STOP judging people if it was your son or daughter you would not appreciate what you are doing.

sayy it aint so

theres a story on a site called celeb news wire about rihanna sex tapes check it out and i wishe them luck today the courts are not going to listen to nothing but the facts and thats all so none of us can inject none of our private eye work into the courts business and i know a lot of people wants to , now a day and time all of us had better learn that you have got to pay the cost to be the boss in this world and life still goes on, so all of that hes the good seed and she is the one who started it well guess it does not mean nothing just because we said it the courts could less about public opinion and it has already been said that the fact that they are super stars that will not even be considered,, both of them are going to be treated just like us common people.

For the person who asked how Chris fans are going to react - I for one will still listen to his music and go to his concerts. I know Jack Nicholson,Charlie Sheen,Christian Slater,Rob Lowe,Diane Lane's ex and way more A-list celebs did worse than Chris and the 'biased' justice system didn't even pursue the charges. So there is no way I'm going to help this system destroy a kid as decent as Chris Brown as presented himself to be. One mistake does not a monster make. And how in the world does he get classifed with hip hop . He sang pop music - and by the way - hip hop has not been made famous by those that have actually had to live in a life filled with violence and drugs from police and their own ignorance of how to make it in this society. Hip Hop has been made famous by the surburban kids who are just looking for something different because they're bored and looking for something to rebel with or fun to do. Rihanna's initial report couldn't have been true, because she said she just sit there and he just hit her for sitting there. She admitted in the report that she slapped him before and he did nothing - there is not way she didn't go crazy on him that night. And TMZ lied again - she did NOT say there was any violence on HIS part before. The violence was on her part. Why has this case gone this far? Why is the D.A. so dead set to send this first time offender to jail??Help me see a reason other than a racial one - because I want to believe this country is getting better. But from the comments on here about 'hip hop' - I guess that it's not. And the only people that are ever mentioned that beat their mates are still O.J and James Brown - when the list of white celebs in longer - but definitely more hush hush by the media.

@Mamps and all the others condeming Chris - look at what your A-List celebs did to their mates and the state didn't pick up the charges. Then you tell me why you are so mad at Chris and Michael Vick??
According to Catherine Sheehan's civil complaint, Jack Nicholson used both hands to beat her about the face; dragged her by her hair, and slammed her head on the floor; pushed her down a flight of stairs; hurled her with such force that she practically cleared a hedge. Her injuries included nervous system damage, unrelenting pain, vertigo, migraines, and periodic blindness. According to her complaint he said, "I'm going to kill you" "I'll give you a good reason to call the police." But the few instances in which her assertions were reported, most of the behavior and words that she described were left out, and no one expressed concern about her suffering, and no one called the words attributed to Jack Nicholson, "terrorist threats."

A police report described Christian Slater as knocking his girlfriend to the floor, at a party hosted by her friends, beating her about the head with his closed fists, causing lumps and other injuries for which she received emergency treatment. A man who attempted to stop him got a fist pounding and a serious bite wound to the abdomen. Before it was over, Christian had assaulted four people, including a police officer, whose gun he attempted to take, threatening to "kill everyone." His words were not described as "terrorist threats," and when the charges against him were reduced, they didn't even include the assault on his girlfriend; and despite a prior arrest, all of his charges were reduced to misdemeanors.

Farrah Fawcett was grabbed by the throat, by her boyfriend, at the time, director, James Orr. He choked her and repeatedly slammed her head into the pavement, and kicked her several times in the upper body while she was on the ground. Farrah went back with James for awhile, without media expressed concerns, ultimately deciding to end the relationship and to testify against him. But even with her testimony, the charge was only a misdemeanor count of battery, and he was sentenced to a mere100 hours of community service.

Charlie Sheen pleaded no contest, after his former girlfriend, Brittany Ashland, complained that he flung her onto a marble floor, knocking her unconscious, opening a gash on her lip that required stitches. Then, according to her, he confiscated her blood stained clothing and threatening to kill her if she told what happened. No terrorist threats there - just two years probation and 300 hours of community service.

And the list of white male celebrities, who have been cited for domestic infractions, goes on: Evel Knievel; David Hasselhoff; Billy Bob Thorton; Richard Hatch; Ozzy Osbourne; Sean Penn;Yanni; Bary Busey; James Caan; Glen Campbell; Eric Roberts; Axl Rose; Mickey Rourke; Steven Seagal ; Paul Gascoigne; Larry Fitzgerald; Santonio Holmes; Tommy Lee; Chris Noth; Vanilla Ice; Rob Lowe and there are more . . .

None of these men's violent words were called terrorist threats, none of them went to jail for the assaults on the women in their lives, and many of them escaped all chargea. And there was no expressed concern that the women involved, would stay with them; and there were no dire predictions that if hit once, you'll be hit again.

The reality is that Chris Brown probably hurt Rihanna due to a reaction to, what was for him, an unbearable stimuli, that stimuli was a threat of violence. Chris Brown described a fearful childhood, during which he was too afraid to leave his bed for fear that he would encounter the violence of his step-father. He wasn't merely afraid of getting hit, he was afraid of violence. Probably, that fearful little boy has not fully grown up.
CHRIS BROWN has spoken out about the violence he witnessed as a child in a bid to end the suffering of kids in similar situations. The 18-year-old singer told how the domestic abuse his moms endured at the hands of her violent boyfriend left him too scared to leave his bedroom and he would often end up wetting his bed. He says, "I don't want to mention the person's name - it wasn't my real father - but somebody hurt my mom and me, I had to deal with that from seven all the way to 13. "It affected me, especially (my behavior) towards women - I treat them differently. I don't want to put a woman through the same thing that person put my mom through. "I was scared and timid when I was little. I used to pee in my bed... I think it was me being nervous, and scared to get up (out of bed) and see what was going on.

Quiet as it is kept, men are people too, and like women, they can be intimidated by physical aggression, especially if their background includes trauma, that makes physical aggression, uniquely threatening.

The same thing that allows women to escape punishment for assaulting men, with deadly force, w

21. Chris is not going to jail hopefully. Riri even told the police she hit him first. Why are we persecuting Chris for something that wasn't his fault. I'm glad he hit her back she deserved it. Imagine if she would have hit another female like that, she would have been in a coma. Chris went soft on her if you ask me.

A woman on woman fight is a completely different thing. And what Chris Brown needs to do is take responsibility for what Chris Brown did REGARDLESS what she did to him. Take responsibility for your own actions is life lesson #1.

Also, Men and women are different. End of story. Men can do plenty of stuff that women can't get away with. It's life. And a man can NOT FIGHT A DAMN WOMAN!!!! Rules are in place for a reason. Stop acting like Chris was justified in what he did. He was wrong. HE probably knows he was wrong, but his fans can't seem to get that through their thick heads. They are doing like this idiot above me and making it seem like he did the world a favor by beating a female's a$$. Yeah hold your head up high there, Jazz, you dumb f$%#.

Good. Chris Brown should be going to prison for this and hopefully will despite that POS Geragos best efforts all he cares about is the money anyway. When you beat a woman senseless and there's evidence to back that up no one should get away with it. Chris Brown is an immature little jackass anyway and brings nothing to the table other entertainers can't supply with their own talents. He's just another talented singer but that doesn't excuse his behavior and finally we've seen with Phil Spector people are starting to get the balls to put these jerks away. Bye Chris.
