James Cameron Has Mayer in Pocket

12/28/2009 3:05 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

John Mayer is lashing out in defense of "Avatar" director James Cameron -- claiming the director's F-bomb laced interaction with an autograph-seeking man at LAX last week was a "smear" -- because the "fan" was really an "Obnoxious E-bay Poster Guy."

It's all in Mayer's blog, in which he claims Cameron was completely justified in denying the autograph and calling the man a "f**king a**hole" in the process. In the blog, Mayer also spins a conspiracy involving the autograph seeker, TMZ and American Airlines.

But there's another side to the story : Even if the man is a professional autograph seeker -- is it wrong for him to become a middleman for people outside of L.A. who want an autograph from James Cameron? After all, James did announce that he has no problem signing for people.

So the new question...

What I've been saying all along is that the guy could be some stalker or nutball who follows Cameron everywhere he goes and tries to provoke him on purpose and on camera just to make him look bad. It's just hard to tell what's going on from seeing only parts of the interation and not knowing the whole history of the 2. Cameron was probably not refusing an unknown fan, but some nutjob who he has seen and been pestered by time and time again. You can't make judgements whithout knowing the whole story it's easy for some nutball to make things look like something they are not.

I'm not much into hero worship, but I respect a lot of people, especially when they put their life on the line for me every day.

Who cares if it's an ebay autograph hound?

1. he obviously needs the money. Aren't libby stars all for "the little guy"? Share the wealth as Obama says, Jimmy boy.

2. he's doing a service to whoever would want that douche's autograph. There are people who can't travel the world or wait in lines for the -.001% chance that you'll actually get the autograph, so they rely on ebay sellers

3. he should be grateful anyone would even want his Douche a$$ autograph let alone pay for it!!!!!

I thought that all along. Who in the world "just happens" to be in the same airport as James Cameron and also "just happens" to have a poster for his movie??? Of course the guy was not a regular fan. And no, I don't think "middlemen" like him should be catered to. He's trying to profit off of a nice gesture. Famous people should give autographs to REAL fans. Not people who just want to make a buck.

So I get it John Mayer is justified in calling an autograph seeker an A$$h0le because John Mayer is the standard for an awesome all around celebrity. Get real John Mayer is a freaking whore bag to me he looks like a big old bag of STD's and puss. As for James Cameron he is a jerk and always has been. So this BS of siding with James Cameron is just dumb. The guy gets autographs for money good for him. That's not a crime.

I personally don't, but what I do care about is how he conducts himself in his 'business'. Did you actually see (and hear) the video?

1. he obviously needs the money. Aren't libby stars all for "the little guy"? Share the wealth as Obama says, Jimmy boy.
----------
Yeah, he needs the money after all that "pity me, I'm the little guy" talk, right? Then the insults telling the star what he really thinks.

2. he's doing a service to whoever would want that douche's autograph. There are people who can't travel the world or wait in lines for the -.001% chance that you'll actually get the autograph, so they rely on ebay sellers

Right, and TMZ are doing a service and are saints in the way they treat people, never stepping over anyone or treating anyone unfairly at all.

3. he should be grateful anyone would even want his Douche a$$ autograph let alone pay for it!!!!!
--------------
You really think so? I think he should have the right to refuse autographs anywhere and anytime and for any reason he wants, regardless of whether a camera is put before him (usually by the provoking loser himself) or not.

John Mayer also thinks it's fine when Samantha Ronson says that all the girls on the streets of Miami fell down the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down - this on her twitter - he defended that statement and told her to stand behind it, this after posting on his own twitter that 2010 should be about love, learning and teaching and bladdity-blah. John Mayer is a hypocritical sausage filled with lamesauce. btw when Samantha's followers took umbrage to her statement you should have seen Lindsay Lohan's sock puppets come out of the twitter woodwork to "defend" Ms. Ronson. What a hateful bunch of diatribes Morgan Mayhem spewed - whew!

I think the movie should be boycotted. He is a jerk and thinks he is too good for the common people that are feeding his sorry a**

People like him should show more kindness. But he's rich and has no financial worries like the rest of us. So why would, or should he? The man is a professional autograph seeker, Unlike taking his photo without his permission like the Tabloids! Folks make alot of money taking pictures of Hollywood Bigshots. Take this show for instance... Is that wrong too? The man wanted a simple autograph. And was dissed on for it. He is NOT the only one to be denied an autograph from Cameron either. Many fans are coming out of the woodwork on this one. My Opinion is, "I'd say he is Rude, Crude, and a total stuck up!" In fact, Walt Disney didn't treat fans like that. God rest his soul! Cameron started the argument out of nothing! He's just a jerk and his true colors really showed up this time to prove it.

i just checked ebay and there is a James Cameron photo signed and only 9.99...

clear this guy wasn't doing it for the money. After ebay fee's it would be one hr at federal min wage to stand around.

Then why does his ebay listing have photos of the stars signing his crap as well as the poster itself?

You seem to think that TMZ are the "bad guy" for taking photos (and of course sometimes they are with the way they conduct their dirty business and defame others with snide commentary) yet you seem to put this so-called "little guy" in the "he just wanted a simple autograph!" category.

I put them both in the "dirty business" category, and on top of that, the King of Rudeness and Lack of civil Behaviour categories.

Stars owe you nothing, and it's their right to refuse autographs. Their RIGHT. Whether you think it will help them or their image (and whether or not you think they are kind or unkind) is irrelevant in the scheme of things.

Let me see if I have this right....

Some of you are saying a celebrity doesn't OWE fans anything, including an autograph? No matter what the autograph seeker is going to do with it, after the fact?

The word "autograph" exist for a reason. Once used to describe what celebrities did for free, to give back to their fans. At least at one time. I guess, not anymore?

People want an autograph because they admire the person they are getting it from.

No, I guess you can say they don't OWE us anything but, we poor people sure do spend a lot of money over the years seeing their films at theaters, renting them or even buying them. We (the fans) are what makes these celebrities famous, we make or break them depending on how we, the fans, like a movie or show and yet, we aren't entitled to anything if we run across these celebrities?

They don't owe us anything? I beg to differ, they owe us anything they give us due to us paying them their incomes and making them rich and famous. They would be nothing if it weren't for us little people. The least, they can do is sign an autograph. It wasn't like James had 50 people there wanting autographs. Only one man. Yet, James had to berate the little guy. Sorry, but not all of us make a lot of money and hardly ever meet celebrities but, when we do, isn't it nice if they would take time out for their FANS?!?!? How can I be wrong in this thinking and logic? Celebrities know, when you become famous, there are things that go with it like, FANS and autographs.

What happened to celebrities with CLASS and appreciation?
If they don't want to sign autographs, then they shouldn't leave their house. Go buy an Island somewhere and never leave it!

James Cameron has been knowing for being an ass a long time now. If they set him up so what no one can control what he said verbally we all are responsible for what comes out of our mouths. Sorry John but your blog or exposure on the wirline or tmz does not change the fact that the man is a jerk. If he does not want to be in the public eye then why all the press junkets? John is wrong and should not line himself up with someone like James Cameron.

Dear TMZ,

What is it with your hardon for James Cameron? Did you think Avatar sucked that bad?

James may be an a**hole in general but this time he was well within his rights to tell this "fan" to buzz off. The video was clearly edited so only you guys know how long the "fan" was harassing Mr. Cameron. NO MEANS NO MEANS NO.

You guys got what you wanted; James Cameron living up to his reputation; so be happy with what you have and move on. Yeesh.

Sincerely,
Tanna
