Conrad Murray Judge -- So Tough, So Smart

4/5/2010 1:40 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Sources tell TMZ the judge who will get the Conrad Murray manslaughter case is one of the toughest, smartest judges on the bench in L.A. County.

Court sources tell TMZ that L.A. County Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor will be assigned Murray's case today, following a brief hearing with the Supervising Judge of the L.A. County Superior Court.

Judge Pastor has handled some high-profile cases, including the case involving topless pics of Cameron Diaz, Jason Priestley's DUI case, and a slew of other high-profile, non-celeb cases.

Note to lawyers in the case -- Pastor is extremely tough, and nothing gets past him. He reads every legal doc in his cases and makes it a point to become an expert on whatever the case involves.

Judge Pastor also knows something about addiction -- he's renowned at the courthouse as having a frequent flier mileage addiction, often flying pointlessly over a weekend just to rack up mileage points.

He's getting the Judicial Excellence Award from the L.A. County Criminal Courts Bar Association this weekend.

cheznaz, ppl seem to forget the points you made...if Michael was a drug addict, he would have gotten that shi! any way possible. instead, he got a doctor, thinking it would be safe! anyone could have understood had he really just took it upon himself to do drug and then died, but he hired a doctor to keep him healthy and safe!! nothing irresponsible about that-he had the money...

most ppl are trying to understand MJ from their point of view, but he was a very wealth man. that stuff about him wanting what he want when he wanted it, of course he did. so do i, but i can't afford it. that doesn't prove a damn thing. but everyone knows he was NOT a selfish person, so what is the point in even making that statement?!

none of this nonsense printed on this site can prove that murray did NOT kill MJ, and if murray is really putting these things out there, he needs to fry because there's no reason to trash Michael--and, since he has proclaimed to have been a friend, the only thing to do is tell the truth, even if it looks be on either one of them. the truth is never as bad as spinning lies and letting others speculate.

Thank GOD for him. Murray's lawyers can fluff up and put a bow on this and even blame the man their client KILLED and this man will steer the case back on the track...whether they like it or NOT. I am relieved.

GOOD! I am glad that Murray is getting a tough judge, now if we can find an equally strict judge to sit the bench for the criminal trial of that slug Howard K. Stern then we might make some headway in cleaning up the prescription market in LA....and the market as it involves celebrities as a whole. If we can start locking up these enablers then we might not read about a new celeb death every month. Though Howard K. Stern might have been deterred by the simple fact that his purpose for enabling (to get a piece of the Marshall estate) was shutout by the 9th Circuit last month.

This judge proved to be an ass-hole like the rest of the justice system ass-holes.

How could it be conscionable that this impersonator of a Doctor first of all is not in jail for Murder and second of all still seeing people.

What a sick INJUSTICE system this is.

I am aghast!!!! Why would they let an irresponsible, dangerous physician practice medicine on other non-suspecting patients after demonstrating such negligence that resulted in someone's death for monetary gain?!!! The public should sue this judge for his poor and frankly astonishing lack of "judgement". OMG! What people don't understand is that adminstering a drug like propofol in a home environment is like an anesthesiologist putting someone "under" in a patient's living room AND LEAVING or a blind surgeon performing brain surgery. What about this does this so called wise, smart judge not get?!!!

I like Michael Pastor as the judge choice for Conrad Murray - Based on his name - Michael will be attentive, curious, a risk taker, but even tempered with his remarks & actions. Conrad definitely caught a break with this judicial decision!

Michael was neither a child nor a victim, but an adult responsible for his own decisions, who made mistakes and privately lived an extremely self-indulgent, extravagant and wasteful lifestyle, buying anything and everything he fancied to have or neurotically needed, including buying doctors who would give him the drugs and surgeries and treatments he wanted.

He, too, could have said "NO!" to any of it, and didn't. Nobody forced Dr. Murray on him; he was appointed at Jackson's insistence, probably because he already knew the Doctor would indulge him.

Loving and admiring MJ is not the problem; making incredibly asinine excuses for him out of a refusal to deal with the reality of his weaknesses and failings, and demonizing virtually everyone who ever came in contact with him as a contributor to his downfall, is is another matter.

I think you could call it tunnel vision, but it's also a form of false idolatry.

This is a VERY sensible judge. Murray and his team of crooked lawyers won't be able to fool him.
