Katherine Jackson Sues AEG Over Michael's Death

9/16/2010 10:17 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Kathrine Jackson believes the death of her son Michael Jackson could have been prevented ... if it wasn't for the "negligent" actions of the doctor who was hired to keep him healthy.

091510_katherine_video
During a recent interview, Katherine was asked if MJ's death was avoidable, to which she responded, "It could have been prevented because he had hired a doctor to watch over him. The doctor was negligent."

As we previously reported, Katherine Jackson and Michael Jackson's children are suing AEG Live -- claiming the company breached its agreement to provide physical care for Michael Jackson -- and that AEG was negligent in their hiring of Dr. Conrad Murray as MJ's physician.

In the suit, Katherine claims AEG's contract with Michael "created a legal duty for AEG to act reasonably toward the physical well-being of Michael Jackson."

In the document, Katherine also blames AEG for hiring Dr. Murray without  a proper background check -- claiming, "AEG did not provide a doctor who was truly looking out for Jackson's well-being and did not provide equipment."

The suit also alleges AEG caused emotional distress to Michael's son Prince because he witnessed Michael suffering and dying, and "he was put in a position as bystander to these tragic events."

Kenny Ortega, who produced the planned London concerts for Michael, is also named as a defendant.

The attorney who filed the suit, Brian J. Panish, released a statement saying, "The purpose of this lawsuit is to prove to the world the truth about what happened to Michael Jackson, once and for all."

Pauly D Lets His Hair Down

Pauly D is in the next issue of GQ -- but his infamous blowout hair 'do isn't!

0916_welcome_HAIR
The "Jersey Shore" boys got a sporty makeover for the October issue -- and were forced to ditch their Ed Hardy pants, jewelry and hair-gel for the shoot.

See more -- and get workout tips from from Pauly, the Situation, Ronnie and Vinny -- when the issue drops September 21.

Heidi & Spencer -- Kiss & Make-Up

This photo pretty much proves Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt aren't getting divorced ... and may also make you lose your breakfast.

The gruesome twosome just happened to be photographed while kissing on Heidi's 24th birthday in Santa Barbara yesterday -- while Montag proudly displayed her wedding ring.

A toast to the happy couple?

Teri Hatcher Completes Triathlon

Teri Hatcher suited up and hopped into the water yesterday for the 2010 Nautica Malibu Triathlon.

0914_welcome_teri_launch
Hatcher, who previously posted swimsuit photos of herself on her Facebook to promote the event, competed in the swimming portion of the event.

Her teammates included "Modern Family" star Julie Bowen and Disney head honcho Bob Iger.

Hatcher took part in the event to raise money for the L.A. Children's Hospital.

The Situation -- He Shore Found a Nice Apartment

When The Situation decided to go apartment hunting in Los Angeles, he picked out a place with the most guido-sounding name he could find -- The Palazzo. Ay-oh!

0913_situation_launch
But in all seriousness ... The Palazzo is a giant, swanky apartment community the size of a small city that happens to be located right near the CBS lot where "Dancing with the Stars" shoots. We're told he had his eyes on a unit that ran more than $5k per month ... but no sweat off his brow --  "DWTS" picks up the tab.

And the best part -- he doesn't have to share a bathroom with Angelina!

What's the Big Frigin' Difference?!

She's just trying to cash in.If the 50 year old jerk took drugs that caused his own death, why are they trying to blame everyone else.Where was his FAMILY!when all this was going on?

Frantically trying to keep MJ's image alive in the news. How pathetic. The molester of children paved his own drug addicted road. Movin' on.

What a bunch of money grubbers! They tried to bleed Michael dry when he was alive and now they're trying to gain financially from his death. MJ was a druggie and he would have found a doctor to get him his fix no matter who AEG tried to hire or what kind of background check they did. An addict is an addict and his family needs to quit trying to blame everybody for his death but the person who was ultimately responsible which is MJ himself!

I want to respond to the very first comment on this page. I agree with you in regard to Michael Jackson being a 50 year old grown man who made poor choices in his life. We must also realize that Michael Jackson was an addict. Anna Nicole Smith was an addict as well. An addict who is addicted to drugs is not in their right state of mind. Dr. Murray and Howard K Stern were all sober and knew what they were doing. Dr. Murray and Howard K. Stern were contributors to the death of these stars. They should have recommended treatment, but instead they played the “do as I am told” role because money was involved.

More crap ... Soon it will be someone else that these freeloaders are attempting to sue....
There can be no doubt that geninus and insanity are two parts of the whole .. Sue yourself as you made some serious errors a long time ago in not getting this unbalanced teen help then.
RIP to the former king of pop.

To everyone who thinks Katherine Jackson is after more money. Katherine Jackson has all the money she needs. Ms. Jackson deserves a lot of credit because she is raising Michael's children….God bless you Katherine 

If MJ was purposely taking very dangerous drugs that were not prescribed to him by a doctor, then he must take responsibility for losing his own life, doctor or no doctor. However, if the court proceedings show that he was properly prescribed these medications and placed under the care of this physician to ensure he takes them safely, then the physician is liable for this tragic death. Those of you who wish to perpetuate the lie that Michael was a child molestor need to get up to date on that issue. Those kids are now grown up and have come out and said they were never ever molested by Michael!

Michael Jackson's problems never would have happened if Katherine had just left Joseph back when they were little. If that was me, I'd have taken my kids and run as far from that man as possible. She knew what her husband was doing waaaay back when Michael was little and she did nothing to protect him. Now it's too late to help him, but she's broke and she has to do something to keep his children fed and keep a roof over their heads. This whole mess is such a tragedy...it never should have happened.

IT IS QUITE OBVIOUS THAT RESPONDERS DO NOT KNOW THE SYSTEM AND WHAT HAS TO BE DONE ON BEHALF OF THE CHILDREN. NO ONE - EXCEPT PERHAPS THE FAMILY AND DOCTOR HAVE THE WHOLE STORY SO IT APPEARS THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE COMMENTING ON BEHAVIOR OF THE JACKSONS BASED ON LIMITED KNOWLEDGE. MAY THEY NEVER HAVE TO DEAL WITH ANY SITUATION CLOSE TO WHAT THE JACKSON'S ARE.
