NBA Coach -- Is That a Swastika in Your Tie???

10/1/2010 8:05 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Now we're in no way implying that Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Byron Scott is a Nazi ... but, the tie he decided to wear for his team's media day ... well, let's just say, it went out of style in the mid-40's.

WHATEVER and several others- You are wrong! There is ample proof that the swastika was/is a part of many Southwestern tribes, most notably the Navajo...as well as a part of Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, and a couple of other cultures and faiths.

Those of you that are implying that the symbol on the tie is backwards are also incorrect, the tail always comes out of the right side of the x, whether it be a Nazi swastika, or one of more peaceful and humble origins. Enough with the unfounded assumptions and assertions, what I am saying is a correct and educated statement.

It took me a moment of refocusing my eyes to even see a swastika. Bet he doesn't wear it again.

There's no way he saw that. You guys are making something out of nothing. That would piss me off if somebody asked if I was nazi of all things. Thats like calling you Satan himself.

Let's see, TMZ run by a JEW, not much of a stretch that the JEW would find this and turn it into something that it isn't.

The word swastika is derived from the Sanskrit word svastika (in Devanagari स्वस्तिक), meaning any lucky or auspicious object, and in particular a mark made on persons and things to denote good luck. It is composed of su- meaning "good, well" and asti "to be" svasti thus means "well-being." The suffix -ka either forms a diminutive or intensifies the verbal meaning, and svastika might thus be translated literally as "that which is associated with well-being," corresponding to "lucky charm" or "thing that is auspicious."

Yes- we all know the symbol was stolen and corrupted by the Nazis. If he were wearing the tie at a Hindu or Navajo event its possible nobody would think anything of it. But he's wearing it at for a 'media day' and his audience is average Americans. I'm not saying meant anything by it but from all the ties in the world to wear he picks THAT one? That's like showing up to a photo shoot with pants unzipped: doesn't mean you're a perv but rather just not paying attention.
