To those who have never done New York Marathon, get this right before you open your big mouth. The Race go by WAVES. They will assign which wave you will be. You can't choose, New York Road Runner will designate. His finish time is accurate. NYRR divides the race in 3 and if you look at their bib number, it's color coded. Though the race start at a certain time, your time will only clock in when you hit the censor at START line. There are thousand of runners, the only exemption that you'll be at the front is if you are an elite runner and how you can tell is by their bib which is personalized by your first name. If there are 20,000 runner is one wave, not all can start at 9:45 a.m., unless you are FLYING and not RUNNING. The Verizano Bridge is not that WIDE...so think before you speak. #1-mining is physically demanding-so he's been in training longer than most Americans
#2- he ran 8 miles a day in a very heavy-dense atmosphere-they expected the miners to have lung damage from being so deep.
#3- He made a harness from electic cables and pulled pallets-wood sleds to build up his legs and core strength after they got food.
#4-to make this a fair marathon-the other runners should have spent a week underground
#5-The jerks are just jealous of somebody that works hard and is a hero survivor- They are obviously lacking lots of things in their heads and hearts

Wow! Amazing, after 69 days trapped in the Chilean mine I'm surprised they all had their sanity left when they came out! Guys had courage and guts, to complete a physically demanding NYC Marathon so soon after that speaks volumes!! Congratulations!!

Lot's of people care, those of us that believe in the power of the human spirit. This guy is a stud, most of us couldn't even walk half that far without whining and giving up!

@Sandra - you are a sad, lost person as well.

I really feel sorry for people that dwell on the negative and not understand the power of the positive.

I don't think most of us can really comprehend what it would be like in a situation like these guys were in. The real terror wouldn't be the isolation and darkness, it would be the uncertainty that they might not live to see another day, let alone, make it out in the end. It's not that most people are dumb, it's that they are too lazy to think about it!

That's just unbelievable! Never run a marathon and didn't train for it... besides the fact that he was buried for 69 days??!!!??? That is just un-real.

This is for "afjioeqjioe" (post #30)-- For your information, he ran more than half the marathon at a 9:25/mile pace. Shortly after that, he had to be treated at a medic tent because of his knees, which he had already said might be a problem (which is why he said before the race that his goal was 6 hours).
After being seen in the medic tent, where they strapped ice packs to his knees, he continued on, with the ice packs, walking for stretches and jogging for stretches.
He never claimed to be a world-class runner. He was invited to attend the marathon and after he invitation, he asked if he could run it instead of just watching. He could have easily quit when his knees started to really bother him but he wanted to finish. And that's what he did.
"afjioeqjioe" (comment #30) must be a bitter, unhappy person. Many people finished AFTER Edison, why don't you groan about all of them as well. What was your time? Or have you ever covered that distance at all? Didn't think so.
