Kanye West:

HELL NO, I Won't Perform on 'Today'

11/12/2010 2:30 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Kanye West claims there's no way he's going to perform on the "Today" show later this month -- as he was scheduled to do -- strictly because of the way Matt Lauer and Co. handled his interview about George W. Bush.

1112_kanye_BN_TMZ_01
Just hours ago, Kanye went to his Twitter page and pounded out the following message, "I'm not performing on the Today Show for obvious reasons. I'm so happy the world got to see just a small piece of 'the set up.'"

As we previously reported, Kanye butted heads with "Today" over an interview they aired on Wednesday -- in which Kanye said, "I would tell George Bush, in my moment of frustration that I didn't have the grounds to call him a racist."

As of yesterday, the people at "Today" still expected Kanye to do their show on Black Friday -- but now a rep tells us Kanye's officially out.

Kanye is a cry baby racist and absolutely no one gives a crap about him anymore. Now he knows how white people feel when we have to back peddle for every single solitary innocent word we say about a black politician, athlete, celebrity, etc... Go away Kanye

72. It took 67 comments until there was one in favor of Kanye. Just sayin' Posted at 10:16 AM on Nov 12, 2010 by DS

Uh, 66.. while I said Kanye wasn't always right, doesn't mean I don't support, admire him, try to understand him--say a prayer and a "oh hell no" at his actions at times. But the guy has a good heart and he's talented.

Man the thing I like about Kanye is that he tells it like it is.

OK maybe George Bush wasn't a racist but he felt that there was a slow response to the Katrina disaster. Technically the President can't intervene in a local disaster unless the Governor of the state declares a state of emergency. I don't need to go further but people thought since there were a lot of poor blacks down there that our government hesitated to help them. Kanye said something out of anger. Why do people vilify him for this?

Taylor Swift incident. Granted it was at the ****ing MTV Music Video awards (which are voted on by tweens) he spoke what he felt. Sure it was out of line but damn he got a lot of heat for it. Chris Brown beat the **** out of Rihanna and he's not even getting that much crap for it, in fact more empathy. Kanye just snatched the mic out of a young girls hand and people think he's racist/******* and wish he would die. Are you serious?

Also let's be honest the incident boosted Taylor's sales.

So many things are wrong with this nation. Kanye is just a glaring example. He is catered to, pampered, and idolized by thousands of people for his ability to what? Sing Songs? Wear expensive clothes? Dance? Sexually portray himself with women on videos? All of this has done exactly what it should have done. It has taken someone who obviously thinks the world of himself and given him the resources, media attention, popularity, and money to say “Damned if I care.” To the world, but instead he is so insecure with himself that he can’t take accountability for his actions during an awards ceremony approximately a year ago, and then when called to talk about it blames someone/something else (The Today Show, or Matt) instead of being a confident individual and either justifying his decision or admitting it was a bad decision. Either way he at least takes accountability for the actions he was asked about. Instead because he is so (interject an adjective here, ie naïve, insecure, etc) with himself and his standing in his fans/critics eyes he compounds the situation by saying that he won’t fulfill his obligation of singing on the Today Show. I wish for just one day everyone in this nation would pay as much attention to our politicians (Rep and Dem) as they do to this spoiled brat, but the people of this nation don’t see our politicians in the same light as they see Kanye since his interview. They think the politicians are actually here to provide us with peace of mind, laws that take care of us, or the management of our country in such a way as to ensure that the citizens continue to have the right to Life, Liberty, and The Pursuit of Happiness. Wake up America and start understanding that an overwhelming majority of our politicians (I wish I could guarantee it was all of them, but I think well over 90%) are just like Kanye. They have been catered to, pampered, and put in office by thousands for their ability to what? Portray an image? Wear the right clothes? Tap dance around the real issues? Tell us what we want to hear? The only difference between our politicians and Kanye is that our politicians have as close to total control and confidence in their ability to stay at the top (i.e. resources, media attention, popularity, and money), because we continue to allow career politicians. Vote out the in***bents in any future elections. Push the people running for office and those in ofiice to change the laws to incorporate term limits for Congressional and Senate seats. Why should a Congressman or Senator be able to serve more than two terms in office? A better question would be why would a Congressman or Senator want to be in office more than two terms? The answer is that it is a very good life to be a Congressman or Senator, but that is not how the Constitution originally designed it. The Constitution designed public offices to be a debt of service not a career. America please stop catering to these spoiled little children and start running this country with adults.

This guy's got some mental health issues that need to be addressed. He's always got SOMETHING to say about SOMEBODY ELSE. Never fails that those who are always 'at the ready' to pass off their judgements on someone else, usually are in the most need of cleaning their own house up! He seems to think that everything he's got to say is of such PROFOUND importance as if we're all sitting around just waiting for the next significant 'nugget' of wisdom to fall from his lips. All I want for Christmas is for this guy to take a 'vow of silence' like the Tibetan monks do. What a gift that would be for ALL humanity. Don't think I've ever seen such a total & complete narcissist. Even by 'celebrity' standards. When his mother died, it was if nobody in the history of the world had ever lost a parent; as it ALWAYS seems to be in the case of Kanye, everything is always worse when it happens to HIM. Everyone suffers 'hard times' & 'loss' Kanye-it's called 'real life'. Deal with it, like we ALL do!

I'm assuming Kanye deamed Bush a 'racist' for the way he dealt with Hurricane Katrina? Yeah right, once again MANY were affected by Hurricane Katrina, NOT JUST BLACK PEOPLE! Extremely SICK of how quick people are to throw around the term 'racist'.These days you simply look at someone 'wrong' & you get called a racist. Often wonder if half the people using the term, truly know the definition of it. Almost seems that anyone who directs criticism at a member of a minority group gets labeled with the term racist in order for them to continue acting like the jackass that they ARE! Sorry Kanye but racism is a TWO WAY STREET! It's certainly not just 'white folks' that are racists!

78. KANYE, TAKE YOUR MEDICATION!!! This is Kanye's psychiatrist, Dr. E. Williamson, and I've been trying to get him on a new patch to treat his bipolar disorder. He simply has a hard time remembering to take the tablets and the only thing that keeps him on an even keel is the patch with 24/7 medication zapped into his pea-brain! Edie, I hope one day if you ever have problems-- your friends, family and employers treat your with kindness, dignity and respect that all human beings deserve or give the time off if it is your child needing help.

This moronic little racist children-of-unmarried-parents don't like when the table gets turned on them. What a moron this guy is! I hope The Today Show can come up with a guest who we actually might be interested in hearing about.

"But Kanye West is a classic example of what is wrong with the black community. He's simply a racist and has no important contribution to our society and culture. He's part of the problem, because he sure as hell isn't involved in the solution to anything.

Taylor Swift continues to be validated as this moron behaves the way he is behaving. YOU are the racist, West!"

First off man his parents were married. His mother was a traveling professor (Kanye spent part of his life in China) and his father was a pastor. Seriously do your ****ing research before you make assumptions.

Perfect example of white privilege here. When a white person ****s up in our society no one says "Oh he's/she's a bad example to whites" but when blacks do it you hear all these comments. Whites don't have to deal with this but blacks certainly do.

I'd go as far to say Kanye is right in expressing his opinion about how race plays a role in our society. Even with the Taylor Swift incident people implied that he was being racist by doing it to that pretty white girl. Seriously man. A lot of closet racists are posting on here now.

I think your missing the point. Most people who DON'T LIKE KANYE, simply don't like HIM. Has NOTHING to do with the color of his skin. However, since you mention it, quite the OPPOSITE seems to be the case. Judging by some of the things that have come from Mr. West's OWN MOUTH, it would seem to be that HE is the 'racist' rather than everyone else he enjoys pointing his finger at.
