Isn't it customary for the bride's parents to pay for the wedding?

I could not imagine what it would be like to have a daughter grow up to be a real life queen some day. I mean this families lives have changed forever. They are now part of the royal family, history will always mention a commoners name. This has got to be surreal for them. I know it would be for me.

but they are expected to want to pay for something like the dress, or the honeymoon.

Except his daughter will never be a Queen. Even if William becomes King because she is not of royal blood she will only be a princess.

He does not have an estate, he has a house. The Middletons are not landed gentry, they are a normal middle class family

Sorry, you are wrong. If William becomes King and he is married to Kate then she will become Queen. If you really want to be technical then she will be Queen Consort.

Lovely true story that is unfolding. Lovely young woman who credits her close relationship with her family. And clearly values their presence in her life. Indeed Mr. Middleton and his wife must have done a whole lot of "things" right.

Best of luck to their entire family. Kate Middleton is a fascination in all of our lives now. Congratulations to this (obviously very much in love and very) happy couple.

Kate is one VERY LUCKY girl! I hope their marriage is successful because William deserves happiness forever.

Charels should step aside for William.

First it is not "Prince William of Wales", Charles is the Prince of Wales as he is next in line to the throne. When Charles becomes King then William will become the Prince of Wales and Kate Princess of Wales.But when they first get married they will be the "Duke and Duchess of Somewhere". And yes, Kate will be Queen unlike men who marry in. (they become Prince, ie Prince Philip).

Kate speaks English with an upper crust accent. She went to the right schools and to a very prestigious university. She doesn't speak "jive"! lol
