Road Rage Could Be Trigger in Publicist Murder

12/2/2010 9:22 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Sources connected with the criminal probe into the Ronni Chasen murder tell TMZ Ronni had a temper and road rage is a scenario cops are seriously investigating.

0221_media_removed-1
We're told cops are interested in the road rage theory as it relates to the suicide of the man last night who was the object of a search warrant connected to the murder.

TMZ has learned ... the man who shot himself in the head is HAROLD MARTIN SMITH.

Although there are reports Smith is a suspect in the murder of Ronni Chasen, we're told that label is based on LAPD sources, and the Beverly Hills PD is only considering him a person of interest.

Nevertheless, sources tell us the BHPD is actively investigating Smith to determine if he was in the Beverly Hills area the night of the murder.

And, we're told, as far as Smith goes, money was not the motive.  Although Smith talked about getting $10,000, we're told that was in connection with a civil lawsuit.

So far, we're told, there's no physical evidence linking Smith to the killing, but cops are actively investigating.

Road Rage my a$$! Her brother stated at the Funeral, "..she was my best friend." Really? Is that why she left you out of the will, and only included you in the case a niece died? Please. And to the the niece, I would hightail it out of dodge, for awhile. Just say'n..

And apparently Ms. Ronni was being followed, or so she thought, as far back as March -

--Murdered Hollywood publicist Ronni Chasen suspected she was being followed as far back as March, sources tell Page Six. The well-liked industry veteran told a friend she believed she was being followed shortly after the 2010 Oscars.

Our source said, "Ronni said in March she suspected she was being followed, but didn't know by whom. She said she was scared. Some people close to her believe it was a hit, but nobody knows why." --

Harvey, I am beyond disappointed in you for this one--- The Police last week were all 100% against road rage at all! 5 bullets..one at least hollow pointed..zero witnesses..this was a hit, and someone did it for a part of the 6.5 MILLION bucks she had in her will. Period. Her brother is prolly trippn he was NOT in the will.. Crime does not pay, mi amigos--

Did Harold have any shooting experience. One ex-sheriff dept. Lieutenant who was interviewed in this AP story said it appeared the shots were from an expert marksman.

Man sought in LA publicist's death kills himself
By THOMAS WATKINS, Associated Press Thomas Watkins, Associated Press

"Gil Carrillo, who recently retired as a lieutenant after 38 years with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, said he reviewed the do***ent after it was obtained by KTTV Fox 11 News.

"The thing that stands out is the shots — where they were and the lack of hits anywhere else," Carrillo told The Associated Press. "It's a good shot group."

The close grouping suggests the shooting was carried out by a hit man and was not the result of a gang attack or road rage, Carrillo told the AP.

KTTV said it appeared Chasen was shot three times in the right chest area and twice in the right shoulder.

"Whoever was shooting was aiming for center mass, and they got center mass," Carrillo said."

this sounds like a bunch of BS too. Who shoots random people driving down the road to rob them of money. Was the woman robbed? 5 bullets to the chest? Keystone cops.

Remember, the will worth $6.1 MIL was based on a 1994 copy. Who knows what she is worth now. Maybe double or triple. You're looking at $12-20 MIL. Yep, some peeps would kill over that. My feeling is the dude responsible is a multi-millionaire himself a few times over..

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/experts-ronni-chasens-murder-solvable-49086

As the inquiry into the killing of publicist Ronni Chasen enters its second week, prominent criminal investigators tell The Hollywood Reporter that given the apparent targeted nature of the crime, they believe the case is solvable. The Beverly Hills Police Department is not revealing details of the investigation, but a city official says the police's working theory centers on the Nov. 16 attack being planned, rather than a result of road rage or a carjacking gone awry. Despite suspicion that the late-night incident was organized, it remains unclear whether Chasen, 64, was personally targeted in the shooting. Several high-profile investigators not involved in the case say the details that have emerged indicate that the killing probably was premeditated and perhaps tied to a soured relationship. Robert Wittman, a former senior investigator for the FBI, believes that the murder — Chasen was shot five times in the chest — could have been a result of conflict in the publicist’s business or personal life. “It would be a business-related situation or something that is personal, where she upset somebody or shrugged off a suitor, or a client who felt she did them wrong,” says Wittman, who spent 20 years with the FBI and specializes in art-related crimes. “It’s obviously a premeditated killing.” .....more

Good question.
And if there was no physical evidence linking HMS to the scene, how did the cops get onto him?

Posted at 4:48 PM on Dec 2, 2010 by Curious

Yes. I want to know that, too.

Road rage, Harvey? Oh, come ON. Yeah, I know, you only write what they tell you.

Her brother wore jeans to the funeral, exclaimed no anger, asked no questions as to who was responsible, and only would get something in the event her niece died?!?!? Look to the bro, look to the bro-------------------

Hm, apparently Harold had gotten evicted but kept coming back asking about police.

--Other residents said the man had introduced himself as "Harold," was in his 40s, and said he had recently served time in prison for firearms and drug offences.

He also told them he was soon to receive $10,000 (£6,400) for some work he had done.

According to them he had recently been evicted but returned to the building several time asking if police had been looking for him. --

I was just thinking about all this. That man was not the shooter. He was framed, framed, I tell you! Joking but not really. I kinda wish I had the guts to post what I think. But, don't want to be stupid, either. Strange games are afoot. MG/OG is winding down, and now this picks up.

Interesting.
