'This Is It' Producer -- Star Witness in MJ Prelim

1/4/2011 11:30 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Michael Jackson's producer/director for the "This Is It" tour will be a star witness for the prosecution in Dr. Conrad Murray's preliminary hearing which begins today  ... sources tell TMZ.

0103_conrad_murray_kenny_ortega_michael_jackson_EX_Tmz
Our sources tell us ... Kenny Ortega will testify that on June 19, 2009 -- a week before MJ died -- Michael complained he was cold, had the shakes and was unable to perform ... so the rehearsal was canceled.

The next day -- June 20 -- an emergency meeting was held at Michael's home.  Kenny Ortega, several big wigs from AEG, Michael, and Dr. Conrad Murray were present.  We're told the meeting was "intense, loud and argumentative."  Kenny read Michael the riot act, imploring him to take better care of himself because the tour was imminent.

Ortega will testify, during the meeting, Dr. Murray said some "terrible things," showing a lack of concern and respect for Michael.  Our sources would not reveal specifics, but we're told it's "damaging" to Murray.

Sources say rehearsals were canceled on June 21 and 22 so Michael could regain his strength. Ortega will testify ... when rehearsals resumed on June 23 and 24 -- the day before Jackson died -- Michael did a complete turnaround, wowing the backup dancers and others present with his moves and singing.

Ortega's testimony is important, because prosecutors will argue MJ was fine before Murray began pumping him with drugs the day he died.

I'd bet $100 that the terrible things showing a lack of respect and concern for MJ that Murray said had to do with the fact that AEG had not paid Murray for months. If you will recall in Katherine's lawsuit she filed against AEG the timeline spelled out that right around the time of the riot act meeting, Murray had been emailing AEG about paying him the $$$ they owed and complaining that he had not been paid for services he had rendered for the past months.

Murray probably confronted the AEG bigwigs and wanted to know here the heck his money was and said something about only being involved for the $$$. That would make Murray look bad to a jury, IMO.

I don't think he said anything disrespectful about MJ in front of MJ because MJ would have fired him.

This part seems odd to me that MJ was not able to preform, cold on one side of his body and extremely run down that he couldn't even rehearse but only after 2 days of rest he was able to WOW the crowd with his singing and dancing. Something is def not right here!!

This story (“This Is It' Producer -- Star Witness in MJ Prelim”) is even MORE nonsensical than the earlier TMZ post declaring “Michael Jackson's Son Will Not Be Witness at Prelim.” It will not happen. These incendiary posts serve no purpose other than to mislead and confuse those who are unfamiliar with the procedural process.

It’s not too late to raise the bar for 2011, gentlemen.

Happy New Year everyone. May you and yours know peace, joy and prosperity in 2011.

Be well all,

Mjuls, Esq.

This past weekend, I watched my father die in the hospital. I was alone with him when it happened. It was the first time I saw someone die. Afterwards, I thought of MJ.

I don't believe Dr. Murray treated MJ with dignity. Actions speak louder than words and Murray's actions before and after Michael Jackson's death were deplorable. He didn't have the best interest of his patient at heart. Unfortunately for MJ, he was only there for financial compensation. Michael Jackson couldn't find anyone else and had to settle for Dr. Murray. He had a false sense of security because Murray was a licensed physician. MJ took a chance with his life and lost.
I struggled to sleep last night and it was terrible. It must be hell for a chronic sleep deprived person. It plays havoc on the brain and body over time. I don't know if propofol was the last resort for MJ but he should have tried everything possible before settling on propofol again and agreeing to those concerts when he wasn't ready. However, I truly believe that Dr. Murray is guilty of manslaughter. They're people saying if it wasn't Murray it would be someone else but I don't believe that. MJ had successfully used propofol in the past. It was administered by a trained professional who monitored him closely. This time he settled for the wrong person out of desperation. Dr. Murray took an oath, he was presumably of sound mind and body unlike MJ.

I was sick of hearing about Michael Jackson paying off families to avoid prosecution for touching little boys over 25 years ago. If he did nothing why did he pay more than once to avoid details being released? Since when did a child molester receive such love and adoration? I can't wait until people remember only his Thriller video!!!

Please stop calling the man a junkie! He was NOT a recreational user, he just wanted to sleep peacefully and MICHAEL WAS ACTING RESPONSIBLY to hire a so-called "professional" to watch over him while administering medication to HELP HIM SLEEP -- not to party! Let us all remember that MURRAY IS THE MONSTER, NOT MICHAEL!

Exactly! And I don’t believe for a second that one day with a sick Michael was enough to call an emergency meeting. He must have been weak and probably not showing up at the rehearsals before, and it’s interesting that Kenny Ortega finally admits that. Hasn’t he told all the world before how GREAT Michael was doing during the rehearsals?
Michael’s condition on June 19th was probably just the straw that broke the camel’s back.
IF Kenny Ortega will testify that way he’ll kill two birds with one stone, so to speak. He assures that he and AEG have been aware of Michael’s critical state of health, that they were concerned, have asked him and his doctor to take better care and that they have been responsible enough to give Michael two days of recreation – even more, that they have been ready to cancel the tour. And by telling that Michael was fine on his last day Kenny Ortega shifts the blame: “Hey, he did great again. HOW could we know...?”

However, I agree with Janalal. Michael was an adult, he was responsible for himself and AEG is no babysitter company but a business he had a deal with; a deal which was supposed to provide big money for Michael as well. My guess is that the last thing MJ wanted was AEG to cancel TII. It was the last chance he had to get rid of at least part of his debts, and he knew that all too well. How terribly sad. It still could make me cry.
