Keith Olbermann

Abruptly Leaves MSNBC

1/21/2011 11:35 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Keith Olbermann and MSNBC are going their separate ways ... effective immediately ... the liberal cable host announced tonight in a shocking move.

MSNBC issued a statement saying they had ended its contract with Olbermann, who hosted the top rated show on the network.

The statement read in part, "MSNBC thanks Keith for his integral role in MSNBC's success and we wish him well in his future endeavors." A spokesman went on to say that Comcast's acquisition of NBC Universal had nothing to do with the decision.

Olbermann was suspended for two days in November for violating a network rule on political donations.

Lawrence O'Donnell, who hosts a show on the network at 10:00 PM, will fill Olbermann's 8:00 PM slot beginning Monday.

Bull! Comcast had everything to do with it. More right wing corporate news prevarication to cover their agenda. There goes the neighborhood!

I appreciated and enjoyed Keith's program and hope he will resurface somewhere with a similar format. He must have afflicted the comfortable - they just couldn't stand the truth!!!

I'm not surprised at all by you hate filled, hate mongers, spewing your meaness. Keith had more compassion and humanity than all of you put together. Your ranting just goes to show the lack of intelligence and moral understanding. There are those of us that can understand right from wrong, good from bad, and sane from insane. I hope you all get in return, what you have dished out.

"Top rate show at the network" that isn't top rated in anything. No one listened to Air AMerica and no watches MSNBC. Left talk anything just isn't successful. Bankruptcy after bankruptcy....those are just the facts.

It's a very sad day and I don't know how I can remain watching now that my favorite is gone. Keith commentaries were the best and I always looked forward to 8pm and hearing him weigh in on the topics of the day. I came to love the nation's political mess under Olbermann's keen and accurate view. Keith I hope you will appear somewhere else soon....until then thanks and continued success. PS Fridays with Thurber was a favorite.

Every evening, my wife and I sit down to dinner and watch Keith five nights a week. We are heartbroken that he will be gone, and can only hope that his replacement will be someone like Chris Hayes--or better still, that Rachel Maddow's show be moved up an hour, because we love her too. Aside from Oddball, we will really miss Keith and his clearly labeled commentaries. Is it corporate pressure from Cialis and Viagra that have canceled Keith? Surely MSNBC could find some sponsors more suitable to Keith's audience; things that appeal to the mind rather than the gonads.
Final word on Keith's leaving Countdown: It sucks.

What is MSNBC possibly thinking??!!?? Keith is a brilliant, truthful, astute "major anchor" on their channel. If anyone has any brains there, they will reinstate him immediately. I am horrified they have done this. Unbelievable!!
