CBS Reporter Sexually Assaulted in Egypt

2/15/2011 6:15 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

CBS News reporter Lara Logan was sexually assaulted after being surrounded by a crazed mob in Tahrir Square on Friday ... moments after Hosni Mubarak officially stepped down.

Lara Logan

According to CBS, Logan and her crew were covering a story for "60 Minutes" when they were surrounded by a mob of more than 200 people and she was separated from her security team.

CBS says 39-year-old Logan "suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers."

CBS continues, "[Logan] reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning. She is currently in the hospital recovering."

Logan and her team had been detained by Egyptian police 8 days before the sexual assault -- and Logan had reported, "We were accused of being more than journalists, very frightening suggestions were being made. Suggestions that really could be very dangerous for us."

She deserved for being so totally out of touch as to put her blonde behind in the middle of all the "action" anyhow. Stupid woman.

Trouble seems to follow this lady around, doesn't it? Arwa Damon of CNN is young and blond, and she has been reporting from the Middle East for years, including many years in Iraq.I have never heard of any trouble involving her, she is a very serious reporter who isn't just running after the next sensational story.

Oh my god! That's terrible! What a horrible thing to go through! She must have thought, "this is it," when she was surrounded by a mob of 200 people and then brutally attacked. I can't believe she was subjected to that but, then again, Middle Eastern men treat women abysmally. I'm just so sorry that she went through this, and the best for her in the future.

Very sorry that happened to her. She did not deserve that. BUT- I don't think it was smart at all, for Her and CBS to choose to put a pale blonde woman in the middle of a mob where all of the egyptian men have black hair, and all of the women are covered.

Even with security, which were outnumbered, you may as well have put a beacon on her. Ever hear of "when in Rome, do as the Romans"?? She should have "at least" been covered.

Why are people so quick to say that the protesters did that? All along we have been hearing about Mubarak's thugs attacking journalists. Who can say that this was not the last hoorah of Mubarak's thugs to punish the journalists who helped bring down their regime?

Guess what? In Muslim countries women must be escorted by their Husband, Father, or Brother anytime they leave the house and wear a covering. If not they are considered whores and trash that SHOULD be raped. It's a Peaceful religion...remember?

Why is it that these so-called "holy" people go around talking about the west being so bad for civilization, but when an american blonde comes around they want to play grab-ass?

As this was a horrible act, it makes me continue to repeat why are we going to these uncivilized countries anyway. The united states has plenty of murders, kidnapping, suicides, hunger, homeless, etc. for the papers to be full. This is ridiculous for us to send american reports and then cry wolf. weiderenayWell

In the U.S. we take for granted our freedom and safety while walking down the street (most places) or attending a political protest. The middle east is a savage place where people live under a different rule of law. Women are second class citizens, if even that. They are disposable. There will be no remorse on their end for this savagery. We must all look out for ourselves with common sense and not be delusional about our safety, especially in hostile territory.
