Paris/Bruno Prosecutor

You Can't Fire Me! I Quit!

4/1/2011 5:18 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

David Schubert -- the deputy D.A. in Las Vegas who prosecuted Paris Hilton and Bruno Mars for cocaine possession -- has beaten his bosses to the punch ... he resigned after his coke arrest.

The D.A.'s office was already in the process of firing Schubert -- in fact, they had already locked him out of his office -- so David decided to cut his losses ... and quit.

As we previously reported, 47-year-old Schubert was no small timer -- according to the police report, the man scored coke 3 to 4 times a week ... at the same time he was prosecuting Paris and Bruno Mars for cocaine possession.

Talk about putting your career on the line.

What doesn't seem to get mentioned here is that it was a very tiny amount found crushed into floor mat- and he had a passenger that bolted when he was pulled over. He was drug tested. His homes were searched. We'll see what criminal charges (if any) come about- but rumor is that 'drugs' wasn't the crime- the coke belonged to the male prostitute that bolted from the car. (and why would either confess to that?) It makes more sense that his passenger dropped his own stash, crushed it into the floor and tried to take off. When he got caught- why wouldn't DRUG DEALERS pin a DA? In either case his DA career is screwed, but why would he put TWO bad labels on himself and let the whole world know he was getting ORAL 3-4 times a week? He can still be a private attorney with this face-saving move if he comes up clean on the coke. Pays more too now that he has zero political prospects. Then again, Vegas has an ex-mob attorney as Mayor.
