Dr. Drew -- Conaway Did NOT Die From an Overdose

5/27/2011 2:00 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Despite widespread reports, "Grease" star Jeff Conaway did NOT die from a drug overdose -- but rather his body gave out after long-term prescription drug abuse ... this according to Dr. Drew.

Drew -- who treated Conaway on "Celebrity Rehab" -- tells us there is no evidence showing Jeff died from an overdose ... saying, "This was aspiration with overwhelming pneumonia and sepsis."

Drew tells us Jeff's condition was inevitable because the actor had been a serious pill popper for years and the constant substance abuse wore down his body.

Drew explains, "Jeff is another pharmaceutical death from the overutilization of prescription drugs. Please continue to pray for friends and family. They appreciate your support.”

I am very sorry to hear that he has passed away. He was a fine actor and a fighter. He fought his addictions to the end. Now he can finally rest.

He was NOT a favorite actor for me.
Dr. Drew Doo Doo, go the hell away and make stupid statements to your followers, not the innocent public. People like Dr. Drew are the cause of many peoples problems.

"Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." Plato, a Greek author & philosopher in Athens (427 BC - 347 BC) said that 1000's of years ago and it's still true today...

@HB

*Lead to cause of death. a leading factor in. not THE cause of death since he had no toxic levels of a substance in his system at time of death is what hes getting at. but the coroner will more than likely make comment on the life long evident abuse of drugs as well.

The u.s. are a bunch of prescription drug addicts. Just try to find someone in hollywood under 35 not on pills.

Britney Murphy and her husband were the classic example. Heath Ledger, Anna Nicole, the list goes on and on.

Prescription drugs now kill more people than heroine, coke, and meth COMBINED.

Learn to deal with your problems and talk to someone if you need help. There's nothing different between masking your pain with prescription or non prescription drugs.

He went into a drug induced coma around May 19th and died today May 27th, yeah, the drugs that were in his system are gone by today even in a coma, Dr. Drew Doo Doo!

Usually the drugs wouldn't even show up after three days.

The statement that he didn't die from an overdose is a big stretch of the truth!

Maybe Dr Drew can use Jeff on the show one more time by using him as a 'Weekend At Bernie's' character.

His girlfriend/ex-girlfriend whore is partly to blame. Gold digger is already holding her hand out. Poor Jeff, never had a chance. The pain is over.

This is very sad but stop the spinning, please, Dr. Drew. Abuse of illegal or prescribed prescription substance doesn't really save oneself, does it?

Dr. Drew disgusts me.

Did he do the autopsy? Then he says, "You guys need to pray for his family and friends."

What a loser...
