Roger Ebert BLASTS Ryan Dunn for Drunk Driving

6/20/2011 11:43 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Ryan Dunn hasn't even been dead for a day yet -- and film critic Roger Ebert is already ripping the late "Jackass" star for boozing before getting behind the wheel  ... tweeting, "Friends don't let jackasses drink and drive."

Ryan Dunn Drunk
TMZ broke the story ... Dunn's drinking buddy claims Ryan had at least 3 beers and 3 shots before hitting the road in his Porsche.

Obviously, Ebert has a point -- but we gotta ask ...

If he had been alone in the car, then this would be too soon. Instead, he had a passenger and was out drinking with friends before the crash. You don't have to be legally drunk to have alcohol affect your ability to drive. Even a single drink has been shown to decrease your reaction time. It's sad that he took someone out with him when he made the very jackass-ish decision to drink and then drive.

Ebert's right. Enabler's let enabler's drink and drive. True friendship is a beautiful caring thing.Where people look out for what's best for one another.

Someone just lost their son...it hasn't been said whether or not alcohol was a factor...too soon? yeah your kinda jumping the gun there...wouldn't you feel like a jacka** if he wasn't drunk? This is sad anyway you look at it...a little respect people.

Too soon? Absolutely not!! Its too late! If in fact he was drunk at the time of the accident, he should burn in hell. He took an innocent life and destroyed a nice car and public property. Hope he had good insurance, because his family is gonna get sued big by the other persons family. We all know that drinking and driving is bad, yet people continue to do it. Maybe we need to bring back prohibition in the US to keep idiots from hurting themselves and others.

Brad Brad

Wow..At least have some f***en respect. The man just passed for gods sake!

Curious Curious

Is Ebert ripping Ryan or is he ripping the folks that let Ryan drive after drinking? Seems to me he's ripping the friends of the Jackass star for letting him drive after drinking. Open to interpretation?

alessandra alessandra

That may be the case, But come on the poor guy has not even been dead a day, and the fact that we don't even know his blood level yet, what a ass have a heart

He is right!! And it's not too soon....more people need to hear this before they end up dead or killing an innocent person!!!! There is no excuse, ever for this!!!!!

Ebert is being his usually witty self - his comment makes him sound like a jackass - that's the point - it's an homage to Ryan Dunn. Get it?

When a passenger gets in a car with a driver that has had a few drinks they know the risk. They both knew the risks and proceded to (have fun). these things happen so stop yo complaining. RIP to both the guys.

Alright, he was said to be drinking and he shouldn't have been traveling at that speed on 322, but honestly, people make mistakes all the time, he paid for this one with his LIFE. He was someones son, he was someones best friend, what if this was your best friend who just died and people were taking jabs at him not even 24 hours after his death? DEATH!
As for the friend, he got in the car knowingly, not against his will, and maybe if he'd said to Dunn, 'hey maybe you shouldn't drive' neither of them were responsible that night, but making someones death into a joke is just EFFING DISGUSTING, JUST DISGUSTING. People like Ebert make me want to be f***ing sick!

Everyone who agrees with that f'ugly sack of sh*t known as Roger Ebert truly disgust me. Whether or not the actions taken that night were right or wrong, the fact of the matter is that he probably was not the only reason for the incident. It hadn't even been one full day yet before this insensitive S.O.B. goes and tweet's something like that. Really? There had yet to be an autopsy, the report claimed that they had not known who had been driving and for all we know his accomplice may have been a sober D.D. for him. Whether or not that was the case, no one has the right to mock a dead man in the wake of his death. It is obvious that this is all a cry for attention, hell look at his "likes", Charlie Sheen got 10 times more fans in a single day then this fool has had since he created his page. I'll repeat myself for my finishing statement, if you agree with this heartless mother f***er then maybe you have as many issues to work out as that turkey necked b*stard.

Roger Ebert is absolutly right! He was going 130 MPH and DRUNK! What if he killed your family
member? His "friend" was an idiot to get in the car with him. Wait? Wait for what? What else do
you need to know, 130 MPH ??????????????
Did he want to kill himself and his passenger?
Makes you wonder? I am so sorry for their family and friends. They are the ones who will have to live with this tragedy forever.

I cannot believe the comments I am seeing from many of you! You are worthless sacks of yuppy trash! And if you f*****s weren't hiding behind a computer like the Internet Nazis you are I would shove my foot in your f******g asses!

Dunn was a good man, he made a mistake and it was a fatal one.... This isn't the time to point fingers or talk sh**! This was a human being, a well loved and respected man. Regardless of what his JOB description was many of you don't know the real Dunn... And to come on here saying sh** like Mike L? WOW!

I first meet Dunn on the set of Viva La Bam where I played a wrestler named "Leatherface". Dunn was a cool dude, I have some funny memories back in West Chester on that trip and many others. He will be missed and was a inspiration to many including myself.

RIP Ryan Dunn

Not having respect for Ryan & his family is sad. No one knows if he was driving, OR if he was drunk. At least hear the facts before you go disrespect him. He was someones son, boyfriend, brother & friend. & to the DOUCHE who commented on him ruining a nice car & wondered if he had insurance... WTF?? You shouldn't be aloud to use a computer.

How judgmental! It is sad for everyone involved. For everyone making negative comments, I hope none of you ever have to experience the pain of losing someone to a drunk driving accident no matter who is to "blame". Obviously, a fatal mistake was made and Ryan Dunn paid the ultimate price--isn't that enough without running the man threw the dirt when his body isn't even cold. People in glass houses shouldn't throw rocks!

Not too soon at all. This is 2012 for christ sake. Are we not smart enough this late in history to know that drunk drivers never win. I loved Jackass from the first day it all started with CKY2k video, but there still is no excuse ever for this. I've lost what little respect I had for them. Drunk driving is complete and total disregard for everyone around him in society. What if he had hit a family or something. He ended his life and someone else because Ryan Dunn drove drunk. That's what he'll be remembered for. Pity. All you jackasses that drive drunk, you are the "Jackass"!
