Witnesses: Hines Ward Didn't Look Drunk to Us

7/10/2011 5:07 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Witnesses at two different Georgia bars tell TMZ ... they spotted Hines Ward just hours before he was arrested for DUI ... and they all say the "DWTS" champ showed no signs of being drunk.

TMZ spoke with employees and patrons at two places -- Oasis Gentleman's Club and Buckhead Bottle Bar & Restaurant.

A witness at Oasis (an establishment where young ladies work to put themselves through nursing school) tells TMZ ... Hines was not drinking heavily, did not want to be bothered, and seemed genuinely "disinterested." The witness said Ward was only there from 9-10:00 PM.

The lovely young lady who answered the phone at Oasis confirmed she saw Ward that night.

And another witness says he saw Ward at the Buckhead Bottle Bar. A waiter there tells TMZ Hines was at the bar for a few hours, but only had one or two drinks. The employee said Hines was super nice, not drunk at all, and did not appear to have any problems walking or talking.

The waiter says Ward left at around 1:30 AM. He was popped for DUI approximately four miles away, an hour later.

Ward maintains he was not impaired by alcohol at the time he was arrested.

Sure, it's his right. But that's not the reason he refused to provide a breath for the breathalyzer test. He refused because he knew that he was over the limit driving drunk, intoxicated, inebriated, impaired with a BAC over .08% and he didn't want to give the authorities proof of it. That's why, pure and simple. Hines was trying to cover his ass. "

Oh so apparently you're Hines Ward and know exactly what he's thinking. Many people refuse breathalyzers when they get pulled over because the portable ones are innacurate a lot of times. They give off false negatives. Even something like those Listerine strips can screw up a breathlyzer. He has the right to refuse a breathalyzer. It doesn't mean he's guilty. But keep assuming buddy.

For those pretending Hines wasn't driving drunk, deluding themselves and trying to deceive others, I hope if Hine*****s someone while driving drunk, that he'll hit one of you and not any of the people who take a hard line against drunk driving. Wonder how you would feel about drunk drivers after one hits and maims one of you, God forbid, of course. Maybe some people would be laughing at the irony of it. Not me, of course. It would be so tragic.

Wow!! It still amazes me how quick people are to judge without knowing all the facts. Seems like alot of jealousy to me...and I bet that over 90% of those spewing negativity would change places or lifestyles with Hines Ward in a heartbeat. To paraphase what Lebron James said " You can hate all you want to, but tomorrow you still have to live your miserable life".

@I am Spartacus:

Why are you pretending he only refused the portable test? Hines refused to take a breathalyzer test at the police station where they don't use those portable breathalyzers you consider so inaccurate. Why is that? Because he knew he'd register over the limit on the police station's breathalyzer machine which is calibrated and accurate. I'm sure Hines was sucking on too many Listerine strips at those bars and that's what caused him to veer out of his lane and hit the curb. You're dreaming in technicolor, buddy. Sure, you ain't his defense lawyer of a drunk driver yourself? Sure, you must as sober as Hines when you drive.

Thanks to MADD people are now getting roused and run in on trumped up phony DUI charges for having one drink with dinner. Greedy for Overtime Cops, funded by Home Security Federal Funding are now vying for the coveted "dui of the year" awards given out by MADD at the local, state and national levels. These awards also drive cops to cheat on the dui tests they are giving, and to use known faulty breathalyzers. They dont pull these stunts on people that dont look like they can pay the fines and the fees---they love to get the middle class, mainly white family moms and dads on these kinds of charges--because they are the ones who will pay the fine, pay the lawyers, pay the dui school, and pay countless other organizations tied to "keep findng those drunks" on the road...only make sure you bring us the ones that can actually pay. We dont want any (primarily minorities) driving junk cars who we know will simply skip out on court and never pay a dime.

Sorry its a racket now. If they really wanted to get drunks off the road, different preventivne and real time actions would be there---they are'nt...theres no real revenue in those kinds of things.

Thanks MADD---you took what once was a great Initiative and have turned it into a revenue hungry money grab by officers who now cheat to get OT and Awards.

Please, is cities were serious about getting "drunks off our roads" they'd provide a free ride home for you and your car from any bar in town---out of the question. They'd rather you drove so they can make money off you, even when some arent truly and legally drunk. No cop passes up on an oppty to write up someone they pull over for suspected dui, even if they arent drunk, but look like they can and will pay---then let their games begin.

from what both of the bars said it sounds like he only had a few drinks. The time it'd take for them to transport him to the station, book him and then give him a breathalyzer at the station it is highly unlikely he would blow over the legal limit. It would take them at least an hour to go through the whole, bringing him to jail & booking him before they even gave him the breathalyzer. They don't just bring you to jail and have you blow right away.

It's not how you look, it's what you blow. Apparently he blew over the limit. Does not take a rocket scientist to figure out.

Wow, it's a congregation here of drunk drivers supporting other drunk drivers and their right to drink and drive and be cowardly and refuse to take a police station's breathalyzer test that would reveal they were over the BAC (blood alcohol concentration) limit while driving.

People like "Voice of Reason" like to pretend anyone who says someone who is suspected of driving drunk should take a breathalyzer test in a police station, must be just jealous of the suspected drunk driver, are idiots, yes, idiots. Maybe some of us don't like people driving drunk and don't think they should get away with it on a technicality.

No, that would be too tough to imagine by your feeble, decadent minds.

I don't give 2 *****es if a suspected drunk driver is poor and unknown or rich and famous like Hines. They should all be forced by law to take a in-the-police-station breathalyzer test and charged if they are found to be over the BAC limit for that state. All of them. Does that make me jealous of poor and unknown people too? Of course not. You're just plain stupid, "Voice of Reason". Time for you to go to the emergency room and demand a brain transplant. It's the only cure for you.

for those that say "everyone does it, they just dont get caught" blah blah bs blah about drunk driving. those people are the type that need to go jump off a tall building/bridge because "everyone does it". make society a better place, if ya wanna drink and then drive, play russian roulette instead. only fully load the gun so ya dont miss.

If what you said was true, which it of course isn't, then why did Hines refuse to take a breathalyzer test at the police station? Because he knew he'd blow over the BAC limit. It's the only plausible reason. He was drunk but he certainly wasn't stupid. So, he wasn't charged with being stupid, and he'll get off totally free from the drunk driving charge. Maybe, he can do some TV commercials for some beer or other alcoholic beverage companies. That would be funny! Glad he didn't kill anyone this time while driving drunk. Once he gets away with it, chances are very good, he'll keep driving drunk.

Voice of Reason quoting Lebron James telling other people they have to live their miserable life. That's funny! He should take care of his mother and stop boasting so much and actually win the NBA Championship or STFU. Lebron James isn't exactly Winston Churchill or Oscar Wilde. If Lebron is your role model for your life, outside basketball, you are a funny guy.

pissed drunk

lets not rush to judge anyone. this is a classic story of a story gone far, some of you have tried and convicted him, others dismissed it. we don't really know if he faiied the test or even took it
all we know is that he was at a bar and later was stopped and arrested for DUI
I learned that you can't always rely on the cops and it is very probable that they jumped the gun and booked him knowing that it is the safer thing to do in case he is drunk
on the other hand, buzzed driving is just as bad as drunk driving so even if he had just a couple of drinks he should have not be driving

@Marty, "You'd be surprised how drunk you aren't at .09..."

That is soooo true. I wasn't inebriated at all, passed the sobriety test w/ flying colors and blew a .09. All it takes is literally a few drinks over the course of several hours. Bottom line....drinking & driving is stupid and potentially fatal. I don't even drink anymore. F*ck it.
