'Sister Wives' Family -- Just Like The Gays!

7/12/2011 7:20 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

The Mormons and the gays -- they don't always get along ... but thanks to a brand new lawsuit about to be filed by "Sister Wives" star Kody Brown, it seems they have more in common than you'd think!

Brown and his multi-wife "plural" family claim they're filing a lawsuit against the state of Utah tomorrow -- challenging the bigamy law that makes their lifestyle illegal.

The Brown family attorney posted a statement on his blog saying, "We are not demanding the recognition of polygamous marriage. We are only challenging the right of the state to prosecute people for their private relations and demanding equal treatment with other citizens in living their lives according to their own beliefs."

The attorney adds, "It is a challenge designed to benefit not just polygamists but all citizens who wish to live their lives according to their own values -- even if those values run counter to those of the majority in the state."

The legal argument is virtually identical to the one made by supporters of gay marriage ... which is illegal in most U.S. states ... including Utah.

So, we gotta ask ...

I may not agree with having more than one spouse, but who really cares what people do behind THEIR closed doors?? I know i sure don't. Just because i dont understand it, doesn't mean it shouldn't be allowed. People should be able to practice what ever they want as long as it doesn't interfere with other people. I wouldn't push my monogamous, heterosexuality on someone, so i would appreciate the same respect.

Count the number of people involved in the relationship. Count the number of consenting adults. If the two numbers are equal, I could not care less. If the difference is one or greater, we have a problem.

Consenting adults is the key point here. Claims that this will lead to marrying computers, animals, etc. are just ridiculous and I'm sure the posters know it.

Be a little inappropriate~

Sorry but no marriage should be between two people not 18 people and whoever else who feels like joining in.

Will people PLEASE stop associating the Mormon Church with what this chubby chaser is doing! The Mormon church will kick you out for polygamy AS FAST as they would for gay sex!! These jerk holes are their own break off of the Mormons, and in no way would the REAL MORMON CHURCH have anything to do with polygamy! At least, not since the 1800's! That said, it's bad enough getting stuck with ONE ugly wife, let alone getting stuck with five on purpose!

Legalize gay marriage...legalize plural marriage....Will we be legalizing marriage to animals and marriage to young children soon too?

ohhhhhhhh, the irony!!! Funny how 68% of you think gay marriage should be legal and 67% of you think polygamy should be illegal!! So, I assume that your "equal rights" campaign for same-sex marriage is loaded with BS double standards since "equal rights" doesn't apply to everybody. A bunch of sheeple!

There are simply too many idiots posting the same thing. No, this won't lead to people marrying animals, computers or children!

Legal age. Consenting adults.

Remember those key points.

As someone else stated, consent is the issue, not how many people you're married too. If everyone involved knows about all of the other wives/husbands and agrees the the marriage, and all the children involved are happy and well taken care of, who the heck cares.

The problem with Cody's crusade, and the reason I voted no, is that you get into the murky areas, the ones where 16 year old girls are told by their parents and church leaders that they have to be some guy's 7th, 8th, 20th wife or they get booted out and have to survive on their own with nothing. Or the ones where some guy has six wives in different towns/states and none of them know about the others.

But hey, if it's the issue where a guy says 'I've got three other wives and I really like you, wanna be my 4th' and the woman is cool with that? Go for it.

Didn't know how I felt about this subject until I watched the show. I really LIKE these people. Not something I could do, but each to his own. Leave them alone.

If you could marry 3 wives, who would you pick?

The legal argument here is NOT identical to that of gay marriage. The state does NOT have the right to prosecute gay people for engaging in private sexual practices. The Supreme Court found sodomy laws unconstitutional in 2003. See Lawrence v. Texas, 539 U.S. 558 (2003).

The Mormon religion is the largest cult in the nation. Always a male, Jim Jones kind of leader. Want to know more about their origins? Reading about Ervil LeBaron
