'Sister Wives' Family -- Just Like The Gays!

7/12/2011 7:20 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

The Mormons and the gays -- they don't always get along ... but thanks to a brand new lawsuit about to be filed by "Sister Wives" star Kody Brown, it seems they have more in common than you'd think!

Brown and his multi-wife "plural" family claim they're filing a lawsuit against the state of Utah tomorrow -- challenging the bigamy law that makes their lifestyle illegal.

The Brown family attorney posted a statement on his blog saying, "We are not demanding the recognition of polygamous marriage. We are only challenging the right of the state to prosecute people for their private relations and demanding equal treatment with other citizens in living their lives according to their own beliefs."

The attorney adds, "It is a challenge designed to benefit not just polygamists but all citizens who wish to live their lives according to their own values -- even if those values run counter to those of the majority in the state."

The legal argument is virtually identical to the one made by supporters of gay marriage ... which is illegal in most U.S. states ... including Utah.

So, we gotta ask ...

This is not a Mormon belief. Do some research before you post a story. I am not a Mormon and even I know that the LDS church does not approve of Polygamy. I'll go spit on a celebrity and say I am a TMZ employee. If I call myself an employee it must be true, right?????

one thing that is ignored is freedom of religion. were more then one wife condoned by religions? if so, why then is the government stepping in where it should not? where is the freedom? makes no sense when something condemed by religion is ok, yet something condoned is not!

While I don't believe polygamy should be legalized, he is legally only married to one woman, so I don't see how what he's doing is illegal.

I just want to say, FREE LOVE. Let's do it! The more the merrier, who wouldn't want a little more selection and spice in their lives? This would keep your men from straying and then you could also revisit that college curiosity you had with your sorority sister in the next room. Win,Win! Thus I say, WINNING!

"Come on people now, smile on your brother, everybody get together, and try to love one another right now" sometimes you just got to go down the rabbit hole.

When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's "off with her head!"
Remember what the dormouse said:
"Feed your head
Feed your head
Feed your head"

I think it would be fine to legalize it but only under certain conditions, such as not being able to hide behind compound walls, like in texas, and every child must receive a formal education and/or home schooled where it is state monitored to make sure they are receiving an education and not just backwoods garbage like women are to serve men and stay in the kitchen. as wall as proper medical care. this also would allow some sort of protection against all the child rape occurs on these compounds.

This family is NOT part of the Mormon church...they practice a different religion. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) have not practiced polygamy since 1890.

Just a question...some of you have said you can't compare it to children or animals because of consent. Ok. Point made.

What about a father marrying his 19 year old daughter or son? Both are o****e of consent correct?

A gay marriage is TWO people. that's it. I swear no good can ever come from a man being married to two or more women at the same time. To compare gay marriage with polygamy is ridiculous. How many of these polygamous families are on welfare? Quite alot, I'd say because how does one man support all those children from all those wives. Now, that's the total breakdown of society, NOT GAY MARRIAGE!!!!!!

OK, so if this is all about ♥free love♥ and a person (so far most everyone has been saying a man) can go out and sleep with however many women they want to - or vice versa - and what does it matter, it's their business and it's not hurting anyone, then here's one for you: Why is prostitution illegal in most all states? Mind you - I am against prostitution as well, but it seems to fit with the ongoing thread being woven here. People can hook up with whoever and with however many others they want... their business right? What's the difference if they want to pay for it? It's their money. It's not hurting anyone but the other party involved - same as if a woman was being cheated on. WHERE DO YOU START TO DRAW THE LINE?!

Since marriage is allowed for homosexuals (gay means happy - most homosexuals aren't) then anyone should be allowed to wed whomever they want, multiples, sisters, brothers, children, everything. After all, if it's okay for one special group then it should be okay for all.

JulieB - How is that any different then a man who goes out and father multiple children with different woman? You don't have to marry to have that happen that is for sure.

You c*rnh*lers are THEE biggest hypocrites in the world! WHY SHOULDN'T polygamy be legal, you dumb-worn-out-asses?! Shouldn't their lifestyle be permitted, too?! I'm so damn sick of the hypocrisy I see from you homosexuals!

Hell, legalize beastiality, for all I care anymore. This empire is crumbling anyway, just like it did with Rome. Let's legalize everything, for gosh sakes! Seriously.
