Five Dead After Stage

Collapses At Sugarland

Show in Indiana

8/13/2011 6:45 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Five people are dead and 40 more injured after a stage collapsed tonight at the Indiana State Fair before the country band Sugarland was to perform.

High winds were believed to have been the cause.

A reporter for WANE-TV in Indiana was in the crowd at the time and described what happened like this: "The wind just picked up and the stage just caught and the roof just caught and it went up like a sail and then it crashed forward into the people standing in the front. There were people trapped underneath and everyone was running and screaming. They were asking any medics or nurses not to leave."

Most of those temporary stages that bands use are not safe in wind storms. One of them collapsed in Ottawa a couple of weeks ago injuring a driver for Cheap Trick.

There was a news conference on wthr channel 13 at 1:45 am. There are four confirmed dead and 46 injured. They are also scouring the fairgrounds for any people who might have been hit and are disoriented. The fairgrounds will be closed on Sunday and a public memorial service for the victims.
Sugarland has not taken the stage yet. It happened during intermission. If the band had been on stage many more would have been killed.
Prayers for the families of those who died and the injured.

Is it so hard to build a freakin stage that won't collapse these days? If man can make touch phones, then surely they can put a few nuts & bolts together, like **** man, how many times has this happened in the past 1 or 2 weeks?

I won't go anywhere near scaffolding. These fairgrounds should only allow a small stage on the grounds if they don't have a permanent one. If the Beatles could play Shea Stadium on one, surely Sugarland can do the same.

Good thing this didn't happened to great bands such as Judas Priest, Iced Earth or Iron Maiden or all of you would be blaming the predominantly of how Metal reflects on society.

Since this unfortunate event reflect on country music there's no consequences or blame.

Please note that I do enjoy Sugarland music as well.
I'll pray for the all families who lost loved ones who
who was there.

Latest report is 43 injured and 5 confirmed dead. I had a friend at the concert last night and she said it was the most horrible thing she has ever witnessed. Someone came on the stage and said that there was a storm coming and no sooner the person left the stage, the stage collapsed.
