Casey Anthony's Lawyer

Investigated By State Bar

Jose Baez, Casey Anthony's lawyer, is being investigated by the State Bar of Florida, for possible ethical violations -- specifically, hiding information from the court.

The probe was triggered over a dogfight involving Anthony's 2010 conviction for check fraud.  She was placed on 1 year's probation, but the judge in the case made it clear on the bench -- the time Casey sat in jail awaiting her murder trial would not count toward the completion of probation.

Here's the problem ... the judge screwed up, and when he wrote the order placing Anthony on probation, it mistakenly read that the jail time would count toward completing probation.

Anthony's lawyers acted as if the written order was the final word, and as a result authorities -- who were in the dark -- determined Anthony had completed her probation.

The Chief Judge of the court lashed out at Baez, saying, "Our system of justice should never be in the position of rewarding someone who willfully hides the ball," adding, Baez may have violated "an attorney's duty of candor."

On Baez' part, he told the judge he did indeed know about the trial judge's error but felt he had no obligation to inform the court.

The State Bar of Florida is now investigating the matter.

Baez has a duty to his client -- NOT to the court. If the court screws up, then that is the court's problem. I'm not saying CA is innocent, but if you are ever falsely accused of a crime, you would be grateful to have a defense attorney who makes the prosecution DO THEIR JOB PROPERLY. Florida prosecutors and judges look like Keystone Cops.

Hey, the lawyer was doing his job, protecting his client at all costs. Not his problem the judge made an error on paper work. And you gotta know, Casey has been rocking his world for some time now.

Like it or not the judge screwed up, not Baez. Baez was simply acting in the best interest of his client, which IS his responsibility as her attorney.

I have been upset that TMZ posts stories and pics of the vile parents...private jets to the Bahamas, swimming with dolphins, posed smiles with a photog in tow...makes me physically ill. That said, news that Baez is under investigation, once again, made my day.

The judge could've changed his mind. In any case, why would an attorney report something that is on paper legally that favours his client? Now, THAT would be stupid!! The clerk who typed up report wrong made the mistake that he/she didn't catch and the judge signed the orde without checking to make sure it was right. If anything, the clerk and the judge *********** up!!

Baez is nothing but a peon who thought he was going to make it big off of his baby killer client.

They BOTH belong in jail.

Well it's about time! And this is just the tip of the iceburg. This guy is an idiot sleezeball and will forever be, "Bozo". Once they dig a litte deeper, this guy will ultimately lose his license to practice law in any state.

What about those sanctions Perry was to impose once the trial ended? A reporter for WESH was just saying: "Appeals court spokeswoman tells me Casey Anthony appeal will be addressed "in some way" before 8/26 probation deadline"..... Baez is a slime ball.

The corrupt good-old-boy establishment in Orlando is bitter & vengeful because Jose Baez actually fought for his client, and refused to go along to get along. But he won, and sweet Casey walked. Jose rules!

hahahahaha....AS IF the bar assoc was the be all end all.....plenty of good non "bar" lawyers out there.
Don't get me wrong...I'm not defending this guy, he may or may not be guilty of wrongdoing.
However, a Pro se lawyer was asked in court if he was a member of the bar, and he responded by saying, NO! I'm not barred from telling the truth. Now many of you folks may not get that and are scratching your head. Just don't worry about it, put it on the back burner, and let it simmer for a while....it'll come to you sooner or later.
