Mel Gibson

I'm Making a Jewish Movie!

File this under ironic and interesting ...  Mel Gibson is producing a movie that triumphs the Jewish struggle against tyranny ... a movie about the greatest Jewish hero of all time.

Mel's publicist Alan Nierob tells TMZ ... Mel is teaming up with screenwriter Joe Eszterhas (right) -- who wrote the Jewish-themed movies "Betrayed" and "Music Box" -- to produce a movie about Judah Maccabee, the Jewish warrior who defeated the Greek-Syrian armies in the second century B.C.

Mel -- who famously directed the arguably anti-Jewish "Passion of the Christ" in 2004 -- has signed on with Warner Bros., which won out over several other studios that wanted the project.

Nierob says Gibson has been working on the Maccabee project for a decade, but now it's about to become real.

Ewwwwwww! Talk abou*****er seeking out it's own level! Guess misogyny trumps all else, Mel and Joe seem to hate women more than they hate Jews, how nice. And don't be confused by the headline, Joe Eszterhas is Catholic!

stop this knee-jerk foolishness! just go rent the movie: "Passion of the Christ" ISN'T anti-Semitic at all! It carefully, gently and sympathetically depicts the Romans and the Jewish folks (including the Jewish Elders) all recognizing that a truly tragic and unnecessary mistake had been made, that Christ need not have died in such a cruel way. (This is independent of the Christian concept that He chose to die in this way for all of us, for redemption, and isn't addressed in the film.)

In my experience, anyone who says it was anti-Semitic hasn't seen the film and relies on hearsay on hearsay from an unknown source who evidently charged that it "might be"... Sheesh!

Hey Harvey there is nothing arguably anti-jewish about Passion of The Christ. It was actually considered factually correct!

How is the story, based on Jesus's death, anti-Jewish? Jesus was Jewish. And those around him who ended up having him killed was Jewish. Is it possible that a Jewish person can be killed by a group of other Jewish people? Who's living in a fantasy world to think a Jewish man can not kill another Jewish man cause they are both Jewish. Love you TMZ, but this drools of ANTI-Mel.

Ooh, looks like someone is looking for a PR boost! It's okay Mel, we all know you're an unapologetic bigot, so you don't need to do this to change people's minds. Takes some balls to make a movie with such subject matter, why not just do another one about a puppet, this time a figurative beaver instead of literal...

Who said Mel was finished in Hollywood?

Isn't it interesting that Warner Brothers Studios jumped on this project, while other studios were also interested in this project. Mel couldn't even get one studio for his "Passion of The Christ" movie and now the big boys are lined up? Very interesting, indeed.
