'Dallas' Star Larry Hagman

"I Got Caught By Cancer"

10/14/2011 9:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Larry Hagman says he's been diagnosed with "a very common and treatable form of cancer" -- and plans to fight the disease with the same bad ass attitude as his famous "Dallas" character -- J.R. Ewing.

The 80-year-old actor released a statement Friday -- saying, "As J.R. I could get away with anything -- bribery, blackmail and adultery. But I got caught by cancer."

He adds, "I do want everyone to know that it is a very common and treatable form of cancer. I will be receiving treatment while working on the new Dallas series."

Hagman isn't letting his diagnosis slow him down -- he's set to begin production on the reboot of the 80's classic on Monday -- adding, "As we all know, you can't keep J.R. down!"

i'm just guessing here, but a very comon and very treatable cancer is prostate. caught early (psa or digit) it is simply no big deal. 105 radioactive seeds and bloody pee took care of me.

Well, bless him. I think, if I remember correctly, many years ago he had a liver transplant so no doubt his anti rejection drugs have probably played a hand in it somewhat. I loved him in Dallas and IDOJ, and his mother Mary Martin.
