Mega-Producer Brian Grazer

Fills Brett Ratner's Shoes

As Oscars Producer

11/9/2011 4:48 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Brian Grazer -- who produced "Apollo 13" and "A Beautiful Mind" -- has taken Brett Ratner's place to produce next year's Academy Awards show.

Brian signed on moments ago, agreeing to replace Ratner just one day after the "Rush Hour" director resigned .... following uproar over a homophobic slur Ratner dropped at a film screening.

Academy prez Tom Sherak announced Grazer's appointment this afternoon.

Interestingly, Grazer is listed as a producer on "Tower Heist" -- a film directed by Brett Ratner and starring Eddie Murphy, who resigned as the Oscars host just hours ago.

Surely his hair stylist could suggest something more flattering.

This paves the way for Billy Crystal hosting the Oscar ceremonies alone, or Steve Martin with a co-host.

Brian Grazer is a brilliant filmmaker and, IMHO, I'm sure whomever he selects to host the Oscars will be an outstanding choice. He produced a film I was in "Night Shift." http://robbinyoung.blogspot.com/2010/03/night-shift.html Brian and the films director, Ron Howard, chose Michael Keaton to star along with Henry Winkler and Shelly Long. The film was a great success, along with numerous other films, Brian's produced. I'll be looking forward to viewing the 2012 Oscars, for sure.

They should get Whoopie Goldberg, Ellen Degeneres, and Wanda Sykes. Or Ellen, Wanda and Neil Patrick. That will send a message for the gay slur.

Hogan's Heroes was a Hollywood favourite, won a plethora of awards for everybody, all about Nazis and their victims, family fun for everyone. Where are the Palestinian sit-coms ?!?
