8:00 PM PT:
A hospital spokesperson tells TMZ, Heather was awake and responsive when she arrived today -- and she is currently responding well to treatment. According to the spokesperson, Heather is doing much better now and doctors are hopeful she will be released tomorrow.

We're also told Heather's parents are currently with the actress inside the hospital.

--------------------------------------

Heather Locklear
was taken to the hospital by ambulance Thursday afternoon after taking a dangerous mix of prescription drugs and alcohol ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

We've learned ... Locklear's sister called 911 at 2:05 PM PT fearing Heather was in danger.

The fire department, along with the Ventura County Sheriff's Department responded. Paramedics examined Heather and determined she needed to be hospitalized.

This is not the first time Locklear has had a medical emergency where 911 responded. In 2008, her doctor was concerned she may have overdosed on prescription meds. He called 911 and the operator described the situation as a "suicide attempt." It turned out to be a false alarm.

Locklear recently called off her engagement to Jack Wagner.

Heather was at the Lakers game Tuesday night ... hanging with a friend, who was playfully trying to take away her beverage. It's unclear if the drink contained alcohol.

Hell I've passed out from booze and prescription drugs every night this week. What's the big deal?

Heather needs to understand that we all get older. There's nothing wrong with that - suck it up, accept it and stop acting crazy. Butchering her face isn't going to change anything. She's still an attractive woman. Grow up, raise your kid, and get on with your career and your life.

Man, I am real sorry she is sick. I hope her recovery is quick and painless.

Now, to deal with the "bad talk". That this is again a suicide attempt. I will not judge that at all. If it was as before then she is carrying a ton of guilt for an unknown reason.

I, having had to deal with something similar, must ask how you women people get your selves so worked up that you can actually go out and do this to yourself? She is a mid aged, gorgeous woman, with a beautiful girl child to be with. She can date any male person she chooses. What could, in her life is so horrible she needs to die?

I hope that this is an accident caused by forgetfulness or a prescription haze. What I want is her quick recover, home with her daughter, love, some nutritious food, no booze, and a "Nut" Doc or RN for a while. If she has monsters, I will volunteer to fight them for her.

Even my Wife of 41 years says, "Bring her here. Living here with you and the dogs (2 GSDs) would make a crazy person sane again."

It is simple, When taking prescription drugs, DO NOT DRINK. Many people have died accidentally from mixing pills and alcohol.

Suicides and divorces are highest in rich and affluent societies. In poor and impoverished societies, they are extremely low or non-existent.

Heather:

You look so great in those photos of days gone by and then the photos of you drinking at the game....not good!

Heather, I know its tough because i used to have a girlfriend who had alcohol challenges. The booze cost us our relationship, and we both regret it to this day. Bottle vs. happiness.... is a disease and you need to fight it!

Heather, you are better than that, stop with the excess booze, bring it together, and make some positive things happen in your life...sans alcohol.

I hope you make that positive decision.

Best....

Rick : )

Way to humiliate your daughter, as well as yourself. You are just a weak mess. Buck up. You are not the fresh young girl any more, so deal with it. Someone of your stature and means should have the tools and ability to age more gracefully and responsibly, and since you have enjoyed the millionaire lifestyle through the entertainment industry, you should be more willing to accept your position as a role model to young girls, and do a better job of it.

Her poor daughter, Ava. Heather needs to get it together and soon, for her child, imagine how Ava must feel, worried, scared and fearful about her Mom. If Heather did this to try to take her life, for a young child, that child internalizes it as if they are not enough for their Mom to want to live for.

Get it together for Ava!
