Amar'e Stoudemire

Skipping Three More Games

to Grieve Brother's Death

Amar'e Stoudemire
will be missing the next three Knicks games to spend time grieving with his family after his brother was killed in a car accident Monday morning -- TMZ has learned.

Amar'e -- who has already missed one game over the tragedy -- tells us, "I am going to take a few days to be with my family and grieve the loss of my big brother, Hazell Stoudemire."

He adds, "I am humbled by all of the thoughts and prayers I have received."

Sources close to the basketball star tell us, the bereavement leave will cost the Knicks three additional games without their star forward.

We're told Amar'e is expected to return when the Knicks face off against the Raptors on February 14th -- all depending on how he feels.

It's a crushing blow to the team -- especially after Carmelo Anthony strained his groin last night against the Jazz -- but with former benchwarmer Jeremy Lin shocking the world with massive scoring runs ... it might not be so bad.

This guy's brother is killed and you focus on the "crushing blow" to a stupid basketball team and how much it will "cost" them? The writer of this article (TMZ?)is a low life. I wonder how much your job will mean to you if your family member is suddenly killed?

Good for Amar'e for taking time off--it's only right. Benchwarmers are hired for that reason--to play when the stars cannot.

shame on you ƒor writing this article in the tone oƒ, "too bad ƒor the knicks"?! give a ƒamily the space they deserve to grieve without turning it into grieving ƒor a pro basketball team ƒor Amare's understandable absence!!!. shame on you, is nothing sacred?!!!

He should be able to take off all the time he needs, but he shouldn't be paid for those games. You think that's cruel, but the dude makes about $250,000 a game. The Knicks are paying him about a million dollars for the time he's taking off.

My deepest sympathies to the Stoudemire Family, the shock of losing a loved one unexpectedly is horrific,I pray for peace and comfort to all.

I certainly hope management is not pressing him to return. The man lost his brother suddenly,he needs to be with his family right now.The rest of the team can step up.

No one should be putting any pressure on Stoudemire at all, he should take as long as he needs. His family are his family, but basketball is just a game.
