L.A. Dodgers Star

Frantic 911 Call

'He Woke Up, SLAMMED on Gas"

2/7/2012 3:50 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

A woozy L.A. Dodgers first baseman James Loney smashed into several cars on an L.A. freeway last November ... before waking up, trying to flee the scene ... and crashing again -- this according to a newly released 911 tape.

The caller -- who owns one of the cars Loney hit in his silver Maserati -- describes the entire incident in suspenseful detail ... WHILE IT'S HAPPENING.

When the person on the phone makes the call, she says Loney is "'completely passed out in the front seat" after colliding with several cars -- but Loney wakes up before she ends the call, and tries to take off.

The caller freaks out -- screaming, "Oh my god! Oh my god! He tried to leave the scene ... He woke up, and he slammed on the gas and took off across all the lanes on the freeway."

The caller says Loney quickly hit another car and ended up on the other side of the highway with a broken axle. You gotta hear the clip.

As we first reported, cops handcuffed Loney on the scene and transported him to a nearby hospital for evaluation, where he was later arrested on suspicion of DUI. Cops say they obtained a blood sample to test for drugs -- but it came back negative.

The L.A. City Attorney has since rejected the case due to insufficient evidence. Loney's rep had no comment.

Somebody got bought off! Apparently money does talk.

If he suffered a concussion/head trauma of some sort after the initial impact, everything that has been reported makes perfect sense. Odd behavior, slurred speech despite no drugs/alcohol in system, sudden mood shifts, etc...

LA cops not doing a good job? Shocked.

Insufficient evidence? Come on! Everyone saw him do it, there's a 911 call from a witness. The police arrived at the scene, found him drunk with a smashed up car and a handful of people all telling the same story. How much more evidence do you need? I call BS on this one. They should at least be charging him with reckless driving.

So wait, there isn't enough evidence to prosecute a hit and run? Good old California justice.

How do the people that live in LA put up with this crap, if you have enough money and power you can do any thing you want and walk? What is with the police department?

Took blood to test for drugs but didn't check the blood for alcohol?

Lack of evidence? Do what?

CITIZEN INJUSTICE: the Los Angeles courts, police, garbage collections... DISGUSTING! They need a Occupy the City Movement, because it's disgraceful [if they recognized shame]. Remove Taco Bell from office and instal a dictator with a foreign occupying army ---because that's what it's going to take to clean up that town.

How about felony reckless driving? He could have killed those people.

en Todo Momento!!

uh, tmz, can't you like add maps to your 'location events and scandals'? i mean it's not like LA is some puny little town where everything happens on one street... neither are probably a lot of the places you report about. you make it seem like this is happening in some off the charts off the maps place. is it???!

Dawn Barton

I watch the show most nights and just listened to the spiel regarding Zsa Zsa Gabor.....I know she's 95 and is very frail and old. Too bad the elderly in our country aren't respected for their longevity. Kidding or not, the entire dialogue was disrespectful. Shame on you TMZ!!
