Whitney Houston

Target YANKS

Offensive Greeting Card

2/29/2012 5:30 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Whitney Houston greeting card from Target. It's still too soon to make Whitney Houston jokes -- at least according to the people at Target, who have decided to pull a greeting card from their shelves that mocks the late singing legend.

The card -- available long before Whitney died -- pokes fun at the singer's downward spiral in recent years ... "Next time you think of dating the bad boy, consider Whitney Houston."

The card was kinda funny before she died -- but now that Whitney's gone, Target has decided it's a tad too offensive ... at least for now ... and is currently in the process of yanking it from its stores.

A rep for the store tells TMZ, "The card was in our stores prior to Ms. Houston’s death. As soon as this was brought to our attention, we began the process of removing the card from all applicable stores."

The problem is there's lack of tact in this world. No matter what she did, this woman was someone's MOTHER, SISTER, FRIEND, LOVER, and AUNT. Let's mock all the celebrities who make bad choices. Why? Does bring a celebrity make them nonhuman? I never expect anything more from a celebrity then I expect from your average joe. Our mistakes are just made in the dark.

Target didn't MAKE the card...they sold it as I am sure other store have too. Get a grip folks....Target did the right thing by taking the card off their shelves.

Freedom of speech; some people find/found Whitney fairly offensive herself.

I think it's offensive at any time. However, what offends me the most is the fact that the "W" and "H" and the "i" in i'm are not capitalized.
I guess it's just a teacher thing.

PS When the coroner uses the legal term "accident" to describe the death, see all the enablers wash them selves in absolution! Nippy was minding her own business when she drowned (or whatever)! See, Cissy and Dionne said she sounded fine! Does this also mean Bobby's off the hook with all the haters? Hmmm?

I don't see this as a joke. It makes a very good point.

I don't think Target should have put this card out, either before or after Whitney's passing. Why should anyone market anything that ridicules anybody? It's a cheap ploy for money, is all! We all know that the quickest way to build yourself up is to tear somebody else down, and it can be very damaging when things are being said about you when you're struggling to get back on your feet. We're all too willing to laugh at someone else's misery! A little compassion, please! Let her be! And the real culprit here is the one who designed this card!

The sad truth is this lady - like many other people got caught up in drugs and the drug scene and let them dominate and eventially harm her life.

People make mistakes, some are more serious than others.

Hollywood and the media candy-coats the truth to shield Ms. Houston from the facts - that her life ended because of the problems related to drugs. It seems that when you see people on drugs or interventions the people seemed so consumed by the drug and the misery related to the drug use. Ms. Houston died in a room that had drugs in it, the coroner report may reveal that there were drugs involved.... she, like many people have that as a BACKDROP (the stage was set) involved with the death -- she will always be related to that because of that one factor, drugs.

Sometimes I wonder if life would be simpler for people if they walked away from drug addiction - before it harms them.

In that case, Target should erase Whitney's name and put in MARILYN MONROE, ELVIS, HEATH LEDGER, ANNA NICOLE SMITH, AMY WINEHOUSE...etc.

To say it is "still too soon" to be making jokes about Whitney, and then to say the card was "kinda funny" before she died....WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH YOU? It will NEVER be appropriate to make crass jokes about any person who is deceased...no matter WHY they are deceased. IT's just the
WORST to do that. SHe had family....who loved her. Not to mention fans. Sometimes you "tabloid reporters and reporting entities" just GO TOO FAR.
