George Clooney
and his father Nick have been arrested in Washington, D.C. during a protest over the Sudan crisis.

Clooney was leading a protest in front of the Sudanese embassy in D.C. when he was hauled away by secret service agents.

0316_george_clooney_subassetClooney's publicist Stan Rosenfield tells TMZ, "They were protesting the violence committed by the government of Sudan on its own innocent men, women and children. They were demanding they allow humanitarian aid into the country before it becomes the largest humanitarian crisis in the world."

Sources connected with George tell us he feels good about the arrest because it puts the spotlight on the crisis. Moments before the arrest, George was mobbed by reporters (below) -- claiming, he was protesting to raise awareness about the "Sudanese government committing atrocities on their own people."

We're told a dozen people got arrested including congressmen, leaders of the human rights community, Sudanese citizens, Martin Luther King III and George's father ... Nick Clooney.

Clooney recently shot a short documentary about the situation in Sudan, which he released on EnoughProject.org. WARNING -- Video contains VERY graphic content.

First of all, why is he not allowed his opinion on the atrocities in Sudan? Because he's a celebrity? I don't understand that concept. Because he acts for a living he's not allowed a political opinion or social conscience? Second of all, I applaud him for standing up for what he believes in. I'm sure he believes we have alot wrong with our own nation, but you all have to admit, we aren't doing much killing civilians in the streets by the 100's so maybe Mr. Clooney feels as if THIS cause is a really important one to embrace. Third of all, this just makes him hotter. Look how hot he is in that pic. Yummmmyyyyy!

So the Kony 2012 ruse is not working to raise the war drums for Africa, so now we get this going. Where is George in demanding an end to the Abuses that taxation and banking have had us ALL under? Oh, that's right, he's making money off of Those schemes. You are Such a Poodle George!

I admire George Clooney for using his fame status to bring awareness and attention to this worthy cause. PR or not, it's putting attention and help where it belongs! Killing black people just to get rid of them it's Hitler all over again!

George Clooney is an American who is exercising his rights provided under the First Amendment. Furthermore, it's his choice what causes he choses to support. Mr. Clooney is a man who walks the talk. Bravo.

So that's the real reason Stacy stayed at home. Certainly there was no model job for her.

Don't you think he's still taxed? Twice, most likely? I think he lives in Italy because he likes it there. What problems do we have here in the U.S. that even *begin* to compare to what the Sudanese are going through?

George Clooney will be speaking on this topic in Houston on May 3rd, as part of the Brilliant Lecture Series. Tickets are available at www.brilliantlectures.org. Mr. Clooney's unique celebrity status helps focus the world's attention on issues he is most passionate about like the humanitarian crisis in Sudan.

There are people all over this planet in need of aid. What is happening is heart wrenching. but, him being over there is more hurtful than good. He gets to leave, with his camera's.. While there were no bullets and bombs going off, I'd like to know how many times George and others in his position came forth and saved families from losing their homes in foreclosure, who couldn't even buy food.. Here, in this country? How many of those poor ppl did he bring food and water too there hiding in their caves.. Did he sleep in a hotel, with sheets and a hot bath before resuming shooting his do***entary?

On Wednesday he was eating dinner with the president at the white house. Funny how when he was "arrested" he was led away by the secret service. No doubt in my mind this was a planned stunt by him and obama.
