Father and son were arrested by the uniformed division of the U.S. Secret Service ... but he's currently being booked into a D.C. police station.

George Clooney
and his father Nick have been arrested in Washington, D.C. during a protest over the Sudan crisis.

Clooney was leading a protest in front of the Sudanese embassy in D.C. when he was hauled away by secret service agents.

0316_george_clooney_subassetClooney's publicist Stan Rosenfield tells TMZ, "They were protesting the violence committed by the government of Sudan on its own innocent men, women and children. They were demanding they allow humanitarian aid into the country before it becomes the largest humanitarian crisis in the world."

Sources connected with George tell us he feels good about the arrest because it puts the spotlight on the crisis. Moments before the arrest, George was mobbed by reporters (below) -- claiming, he was protesting to raise awareness about the "Sudanese government committing atrocities on their own people."

We're told a dozen people got arrested including congressmen, leaders of the human rights community, Sudanese citizens, Martin Luther King III and George's father ... Nick Clooney.

Clooney recently shot a short documentary about the situation in Sudan, which he released on EnoughProject.org. WARNING -- Video contains VERY graphic content.

Wonder if G. Clooney would be protesting and have ardent conviction various 3rd world causes if he didn't have fame and millions of $$...most likely not, would be working or looking for a job, worrying about feeding and providing shelter for his family. Very nice being in that 1% George, isn't it.

I would have much more respect for celebrities like Clooney if they would take on the crimes of their own government and of those it backs (like Rwanda's Kagame and Uganda's Museveni), crimes that cause the deaths of millions and the immiseration of hundreds of millions) rather than the crimes -- real, imagined or exaggerated -- of those who are obstacles to the U.S. in its attempt to monopolize the looting of Africa and other regions.

Moreover, is it a coincidence that Hollywood celebrities target a government run by Arabs and Muslims, the same (overlapping) groups that, for many decades, have been treated as enemies on and off the screen by those who run Hollywood?

I love all of the people on here bashing him for creating awareness when you know your sorry a$$'s would be whinning, complaining, and just plain running for your lives if you lived in Sudan. Go ahead and hide behind your emails and comments like gutless cowards. Keep on thinking of yourselves you pathetic waste of tax payers money. Not that I support what he is doing, I just hate BIG L's such as yourselves. ALL LIFE needs to be preserved and your wasteful views are killing this planet.

First of all, let me tell you that your user name fits you very well. No one is saying those people are not having it hard, but so are people right here in our own country. How come no one gives a damn to even have any awareness of what is going on in their own fcing home (country), huh? We have homeless people in DC,and hungry too. Did Clooney make awareness of those things? How about start cleaning up DC, and make it a much nicer place to live. If I lived there, I would be running for my life there too. Some areas of DC is pretty damn bad. Let Clooney set foot in the bad area of DC with no body guards around. The guy would be running faster than Forrest Gump. LOL As for me being a waste tax payer dollars. I never had a boat load of kids (that I can't afford),that I couldnt take care of, or come to another country (USA) drop my babies there for someone else to have to take care of.. WITH THEIR TAX PAYER DOLLARS!!!
Oh, and btw..I am not a Big L (loser) Demonbrat, hun

This incident is being reported as either cute or heroic. George Clooney BROKE THE LAW by crossing a police line. I guess he thinks he is too important to simply protest peacefully within the bounds of the law. Why is it that so many famous people flaunt their arrogance? They either act as if there are above the law or hold their paying audiences captive while they spout their personal political rhetoric. Guess what Hollywood and New York? The general public doesn't CARE what your political opinions are--we pay you to entertain us---not for unasked for know-it-all commentary on every issue of the day.

I really don't fathom the vehement hatred being expressed in this blog over one man's right to stand up for his beliefs. Clooney's support of the suffering people of Sudan has no correlation to his support of the people of the US or its government or its leaders, his acting ability, his wealth, his appearance, his political party, his sexual orientation, his celebrity, his sincerity, his religion, his friends or almost anything else that has been bashed here.

Our government guarantees his right to support the causes that are meaningful to him in whatever way he can, as long as it is legal and regardless of how it is perceived by others...like many who are vilified for their efforts to improve the quality of life for people everywhere. He broke the law, however, and will face consequences, whether they are "bent" for his celebrity or not.

Calm down people: be grateful for what you have and spend your negative energy on something more productive. And to the three-bullets-to-the-tired-head author...please seek psychiatric help.

Actually, it was one of my favorite professors who gave me this link: http://thecelebritycafe.com/feature/2012/03/george-clooney-arrested-crossing-police-line-while-protesting-sudanese-embassy, because she is such a big GC fan. She almost cried, but at least he was arrested for protesting and not some other stupid reason!

It seems so familiar. Jane Fonda Vietnam activist and many others have come before George Clooney. It is publicity stunts fabricated by the management companies of the celebrities. It is an attempt to convince or give the impression that they have a conscience are socially responsible and not above the law. George Clooney is good friends with Harvey Weinstein and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. He attends state dinners at the White House. Clooney has the formal and structured communication lines to discuss his concerns with the relevant officials, eg, Hillary Clinton and the President of the United States of America. What will George Clooney and Jason Russell's next humantarian intervention be? Issues relating to the safety and protection of paedophiles in Bangladesh. What a pair of schmucks.
