George Clooney
and his father Nick have been arrested in Washington, D.C. during a protest over the Sudan crisis.

Clooney was leading a protest in front of the Sudanese embassy in D.C. when he was hauled away by secret service agents.

0316_george_clooney_subassetClooney's publicist Stan Rosenfield tells TMZ, "They were protesting the violence committed by the government of Sudan on its own innocent men, women and children. They were demanding they allow humanitarian aid into the country before it becomes the largest humanitarian crisis in the world."

Sources connected with George tell us he feels good about the arrest because it puts the spotlight on the crisis. Moments before the arrest, George was mobbed by reporters (below) -- claiming, he was protesting to raise awareness about the "Sudanese government committing atrocities on their own people."

We're told a dozen people got arrested including congressmen, leaders of the human rights community, Sudanese citizens, Martin Luther King III and George's father ... Nick Clooney.

Clooney recently shot a short documentary about the situation in Sudan, which he released on EnoughProject.org. WARNING -- Video contains VERY graphic content.

He just had dinner with Obama last night. Now he's getting arrested protesting.

He and Obama wanna make the election about anything but the economy. "Look over here, not over there".

It's always a good thing to get people's attention to important issues. Stop hating, while you sit on your couch eating ice cream and not doing a damn thing yourself.

So it does seen a lot of people commenting here never heard of civil disobedience. Does Henry Thoreau ring a bell? Probably not.

George Clueless is more like it. Pompous self-absorbed little jerk.

For the terminally uninformed, congressmen were arrested as well. They were part of the protest too.

Good for George and his dad Nick. But shame on TMZ and their poor reporting for not mentioning that Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.), Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.), former Rep. Tom Andrews (D-Maine), NAACP President Ben Jealous and Martin Luther King III were also arrested and taken into custody at the scene.

Such man of substance and so much relevance. I love you George Clooney.

And to all the IRRELEVANT boneheads here especially the regular listeners of Beck and LIMBO, shallow people who bash nice folks like George who live their lives with meaning and worth, you pricks can just kiss George's handsome nice-scented a s s.

Clooney doesn't have to spend his time with causes like Sudan, he's got the world on a string. He does it because he's a noble human being. He's a good white man, a tiny minority to be sure, but a sterling example to the rest of the ill-privileged white world. Keep it up George!

Go Clooney boys! The haters on here can say as many negative things as need be, but YOU are sitting behind a computer while George is out doing something. Who cares
what he does for a living. IF he didn't get arrested, we would have never heard about this protest! Eat DIRT you haters...I'm sure you don't even own a passport and don't care to own one because you live in a bubble and think the United States is the only part of the world that matters!
