Model Lauren Scruggs

REJECTS $200k Settlement

in Airplane Propeller Accident

3/27/2012 6:38 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Lauren Scruggs -- the model who lost a hand and an eyeball
Lauren Scruggs -- the model who lost a hand and an eyeball when she was struck by an airplane propeller last year -- claims she shot down a $200k settlement offer from the plane's insurance company ... and now she's suing for much, much more.

Scruggs filed legal docs in Dallas, Texas ... claiming the insurance company "verbally offered" to pay her $200k for the Dec. 3, 2011 accident ... and they explained it's the MOST the insurance company can pay out to a "passenger."

But Scruggs is calling BS ... claiming she shouldn't be considered a "passenger" because "she was not in the aircraft or getting in or out of it at the time of the incident."

The 23-year-old model argues she had "completed her exit from the aircraft prior to the time of the incident and was physically located on the tarmac when the incident happened. Until struck by the propeller, she was not in physical contact with the aircraft after her exit."

Scruggs is asking for unspecified damages ... but we're guessing she wants WAY more than $200k.

And who is she suing? Who does she think should pay her for her stupidity? SHE walked into the propeller, the plane didnt come chasing after her or turn into her path. The plane was stationary & she just walked right into the frickin propeller!! How is that anyones fault except her own. I cant believe she hasnt went into hiding due to the shame she should feel for being so damn dumb!!!!!!

don't understand why you would get off and stand so dang close to the airplane, so close it cuts your hand off and takes your eye out! why wouldn't you move away from it ... common sense. they shouldn't reimburse her because she didn't use common sens.

While this entire incident was unfortunate and I feel for her being so young and having to live with the results of these injuries for the rest of her life, the accident was her own doing. She was warned by the pilot of the plane not to walk inf front of it, and she did anyway. In my opinion she has no right to sue anyone for what happened as it was not due to the negligance of the pilot or due to an issue with the plane itself. She should be thankful the insurance company agreed to pay her any amount, and leave it at that.

While most are very sorry for this young woman's injury, she was at fault by walking into the prop. For anyone who has ever been around a plane like this it's very difficult to imagine NOT being aware of a big windy running prop. When you don't pay attention to what's going on around you you can very easily get hurt. If she was too young or too immature to determine danger then her parents or handlers should have been supervising her.

Dumb b***h walked into the propeller. Why should the plane's insurance have to pay anything? Her insurance should be paying for any damage to the plane.

She was warned by the flight crew. She, and she alone, walked into the prop. The flight company should be suing her for defamation and damages to the aircraft.

she walked in front of the propellar, how can she justify suing anyone for her own stupid mistake, she should pay them for the bad press she is giving them

I once twisted my ankle when I tripped over a curb in the city.. I should have sued for my pain and suffering, and missed work.. Oh, but wait... It was my fault!! It is horrible what happened to her, and I am sure a complete nightmare. But, she WALKED into the propeller. I am sure she is angry because her face has been disfigured and she is missing a hand.. But, at the end of the day it was her fault for not being more aware.

She WALKED into the propeller. The plane did not run into her. Did they check her blood at the hospital for drugs/alcohol? Seriously sad that she's blaming others for her stupidity.
