Miss USA Rima Fakih

Strikes Plea Deal in DUI Case

4/11/2012 8:43 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
breaking news

0411_fakih_detroit_court_subDisgraced former Miss USA Rima Fakih struck a deal with Michigan prosecutors in her DUI case this morning ... just hours before she was due to stand trial for the December incident.

Fakih pled no contest to misdemeanor driving while visibly impaired ... stemming from her arrest in Detroit on December 3. In exchange, prosecutors have agreed to drop the more serious charge of operating while intoxicated.

After court, Fakih said, "You learn, you pay your price for making mistakes and you move on. I'm very happy I can put this behind me."

Sentencing is scheduled for May 9 -- Fakih faces up to 93 days behind bars.

As we previously reported, cops say Fakih was disoriented and was slurring her speech after she was pulled over for speeding and weaving through traffic in Dec.

Cops also say Fakih's blood alcohol level was more than DOUBLE the legal limit ... and claim she had a half-empty bottle of wine on the floorboard behind the driver's seat.

Sick of deals and drunk drivers. Punish them according to the law and stop giving them alternatives. People's lives are at stake!!

So why did they offer her a plea deal?

I'm always amazed as the hypocrisy of American courts and DUIs. On one hand there's all the rhetoric of getting "tough", one strike, mandatory sentencing... yada yada and then the clowns posing as judges and prosecutors do stuff like that, dropping charges... I know folks who have gotten over 10 DUIs and only one is do***ented---and that chit happens EVERYDAY. There's a lot of judges and lawyers going straight to hell---so don't take communion, you're only bring a curse on you and your family. Don't confuse God's judgement with American style justice.... He doesn't play.

Once again the "celebrities" win.

Let one of them kill one of these legal teams families members then maybe, just maybe the same rules will apply as they do for anyone else.

Good for her. The ridiculously over the top penalties for DUI need to be stopped.

A travesty of justice with her bing DOUBLE the legal BAC with an open container. This is not only because she is a celeb, but since Michigan is broke and the cost to prosecute her weighed against the "fine" she will pay + whatever bribe under the table in the form of some business thrown their way makes this decision a no-brainer. I would not be surprised if some pageant or other sideline threatened to pull out if they tossed the book at their "star."

Thats BS.. driving around at twice the legal limit should not be something you get a lesser charge for.. Its amazing how if you are rich or famous you get a free pass..

Why the **** would they drop the serious charge? Convict this stupid ****! She's been handed everything cuz she's pretty and fuzzy and now you aren't even gonna charge her with THE CRIME SHE COMMITTED!?! I wish this happened in Cali.

Steelers suck

HaHaHaHaHaHa!!!! They have this under "celebrity justice". That is the ultimate oxymoron!!! No celebrity EVER has to face the reality of the justice system. Isn't that right Charlie Sheen, Lindsay, Brooke Mueller, etc............

She needed to clear her legal issues before she signs her WWE contract. She'll be on RAW by summer.

Should anyone be allowed to plead "no contest"? It gets the defendant off the hook in terms of a trial and criminal prosecution, but because it's not pleading "guilty" they are protected in case there is a civil suit later. Why should a drunk driver get a pass like this?
