Rick Fox

The Real World Was Too

Much For Junior Seau

5/5/2012 8:57 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Junior Seau
fell victim to a problem encountered by many former pro athletes -- post-career depression -- this according to former pro athlete-turned-actor Rick Fox.

Fox tells TMZ, retiring from a professional sport leads to a massive shift in lifestyle -- from glorified hero to relative anonymity -- and for some players, the change is too tough to handle.

Fox tells us, "At the end of the day [Junior] shot himself in the chest, which is the heart, and a lot of people die of a broken heart when they leave the game."

Fox adds, "The real world is a rough place, man ... Depression is real."

Retirement is tough on a lot of people. They don't all commit suicide. Junior Seau was a coward.

Yea man! Welcome to the REAL world. Life aint a fairytale brother. BTW, dying from a broken heart and shooting yourself in the chest is *not* the same thing.

Donna, suicide is a cowardly act. It doesn't matter how much you like the person who offed himself. Get over it.

Do not call someone who commits suicide a coward unless you have walked a mile in their shoes or gotten into their head to know what the f u c k they are having to deal with. Depression is a b!tch that no one should have to deal with and just because you don't have to contend with it doesn't mean that someone who does take their life is a coward!! STFU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rest in peace Junior. We love you and will miss you greatly.

He took care of his woes by having Eliza polish his man parts daily. A chick half his age probably took the edge off Rick's retirement. Cant blame him for going for the tight s#!t

He's probably right. It doesn't have to be a brain injury or depression. It is more likely depression made much worse by brain injury.

I find it hard to feel sorry for any a-hole that kills themselves! First off, did he even give a crap that he is leaving behind friends and family and didn't he have kids!!! He was a self centered coward and p---y!!! I'm sure he had plenty of $$ to survive his retirement!!

I believe you are wrong on this one Rick. Junior had and did it all. It was not a broken heart. He was a man that was never meant for rejection. In other words as a citizen he would be considered just average. No real skills except on the football field. His competitive juices required combat. He was a warrior, with a soft heart, and yet his level of maturity never reached that of the average 40 year old male. Having his wife dump him, his children being estranged and many of his bodies displaced or dead was not the best environment for a man with tremendous insecurity of his future. My sympathies, loved to have had size size and skills.
