HITLER SALUTE

at TV Festival

2:44 PM PDT -- Belzer has issued a statement to TMZ ... saying, "My grandfather represented Israel in the UN before it was made a nation. I'm a Jewish comedian, and there's this new thing out, it's called satire, irony and historical reference."

He adds, "To say that a Jew can't do that gesture as homage to Chaplin's masterpiece, 'The Great Dictator' is like Muslim extremists killing a cartoonist for disparaging Mohammed in his art."

2:32 PM PDT --
A rep for Belzer tells TMZ ... Richard was involved in a conversation with a reporter about the Charlie Chaplin movie, "The Great Dictator" ... when Richard decided to re-enact a scene from the movie when Charlie's character gave a mock Nazi salute.

The rep says Belzer is a "Jewish comedian" and is upset and insulted that anyone would assume he would deliver the Nazi salute in a "negative" way.

"Law & Order" star Richard Belzer threw up the Nazi salute on the red carpet at a TV festival in Monte Carlo earlier today ... because he's an idiot.

67-year-old Belzer -- who reportedly grew up in a Jewish family -- also stuck two fingers on his upper lip, in what appears to be an attempt to simulate the infamous Hitler mustache.

Belzer also bent over and stuck his ass out at the paparazzi ... for some unknown reason.

0612_RICHARD_BELZER_rameyIt's not the first time Belzer has thrown the Nazi salute in public -- he pulled the "Heil Hitler" schtick during an appearance on Hannity back in 2009.

Both poses ARE poses Chaplin pulled back in the day. It IS called satire. If black people can themselves the N word all the time, then why can't a Jew mock Hitler as Chaplin did back in the day (and he wasn't even Jewish). It got him in a lot of hot water and part of the reason he got booted from America by J. Edgar Hoover if you recall. Anyway, much ado about nothing.

The latest is that TVLand is going to edit out a black joke about Obama that Don Rickles said at Shirley MacLaines Lifetime Achievement Award special....god forbid, we make fun of anything anymore. From now on white people can only make fun of white people, blacks better only make fun of blacks, etc ad nauseum.

I see what he is saying but how can you be insulted by a pack of dummies and fools. Of course they don't understand real humor. Jewish humor is often at a level above the common person's head. How could he be promoting Hitler when he is a Jew? I think people secretly worship and admire Hitler so much that they don't get it when someone acts like this to point that out. He says he did it to honor Chaplain, well Chaplain did it to mock Hitler also.

You actually need to be a deep person to have a good sense of humor and irony and to understand satire. Most people are so shallow, they just laugh on cue like trained chimpanzees. It is really sad. How can you be offended by the stupid?

You throw jokes out there and hope that someone gets it. Sometimes they don't. That is why comedians usually get no respect. Nowadays there are fake comdians who just say politically correct things and mock people in crude ways and this makes others laugh as a sign of solidarity more than acutal humor.

This PC police patrolling has got to stop. That is more Nazi than anything.

Remember that old Mel Brooks movie where the producers tried to make the most offensive play possible? They had Nazis goosestepping around singing "It's springtime in Germany for Hitler" and it was a big smash. This reminds me of the same humor. Like people take things seriously that aren't meant to be serious. There even used to be Looney Tunes cartoons about Hitler.

If he was showing his butt and also giving the seig heil salute, he was obviously insulting the crowd, not looking for Nazi comraderie. Maybe he was calling them a bunch of fascists who should kiss his butt.

I just know this guy from old game shows where he had to answer questions with funny quips. I don't know his humor that much. I just know that he can't mean what people are condemning him for.

Stupid ueber sensitive wacko whiners. It's satire, it's comedy. Not everything needs to be so sanitized that it's the flavor of a manilla paper bag. Sheesh... Leave the guy alone.

I'm offended that anyone would call him a comedian.
He's not an actor either. He walks around with his sunglasses pretending to be important. He's nothing more than a boring ass unfunny idiot with no common sense or personality.

People need to get the hell over themselves. It seems that no one can do ANYTHING anymore without some group being offended. Chill the hell out people.

I'd like for him to spend a month or two living like those Jews did in Hitlers camps. He's a piece of human garbage.
