Regis Philbin

'Broke My Heart' to See

Paterno Statue Removed

7/26/2012 12:15 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Regis Philbin wasn't among the college football fans who were THRILLED to see Penn State take down the iconic Joe Paterno statue ... in fact, Reg tells us, "It broke my heart to see that."

Reg -- an avid Notre Dame-aholic --  was out in NYC yesterday where he told us he actually felt bad for the people in Happy Valley.

"I think the Penn State sanctions were overdone ... really excessive in so many ways."

Regis says the NCAA punishment "hurt a lot of people who had nothing to do with this whole thing."

Of course Reg didn't just bitch about the problems ... he also offered some solutions.

Check out the clip ...

Another out of touch imbecile trying to convince the world that 'JoePa' did nothing wrong. I hope 'Reege' suffers huge backlash from these statements and becomes persona non grata in the ent. industry. Then, he can follow in Paterno's footsteps by abruptly having to end a long and successful career in much deserved shame and humiliation. What an arrogant ahole.

I do believe the Paterno told the school he had heard allegations of what had been happening, and that he was informed that they would look into it and everything would be taken care of by said school officials and that if he proceeded further his job was going to be on the line. I am sorry to say but we all know that even today schools don't do much when they see abuse and not all authorities believe what you tell them unless you see it first hand and can prove it. So I do believe that Paterno is getting a bad rap. Who is the one everyone should be focused on? The perp who did the crime and the school for not canning him and bringing him up on charges after being informed of what was going on!!

That's because Regis is from that same age group and old boy mentality that caused this problem to contunue. Shame on you Regis!

B.S. Philbin....your views are no less and no more important than anyone else's. Paterno had the ability to stop it but did nothing. Same thing as approving what he was doing. Who suffered? The kids. They had no one protecting them including Paterno and he could have. I thought the punishment was spot on and removing Paterno's statute was a step in distancing the college from approving it. If your child had been molested I am sure your views would have been different!

Hey, Mr. Irrelevant, did what Sandusky did (and likely Paterno did as well) to those kids break your heart too? Perhaps you condone their behavior? Interesting. What are you hiding old man? You're retired? Then please go away, as no one is interested in the ramblings of an early onset Alzheimers patient.
