Disgraced U.S. Olympian

I Didn't Mean to Eat

Those WEED Brownies

breaking news

U.S. judo fighter Nick Delpopolo says he had NO IDEA the baked goods he consumed before the Olympics contained weed. Really, he swears.

Nick was booted from the 2012 Games after failing a drug test ... and now he says he has a perfectly good explanation -- he was tricked into eating pot.

The 23-year-old just released a statement saying his dirty test was "caused by my inadvertent consumption of food that I did not realize had been baked with marijuana."

The International Olympic Committee draws a hard line when it comes to drugs ... they expelled Delpopolo from the games, stripped him of his accreditation, and will change the standings in his event. He had placed 7th in the competition.

In a statement released by the USOC, Delpopolo says, "I apologize to U.S. Olympic Committee, to my teammates, and to my fans, and I am embarrassed by this mistake."

To be fair ... Nick never specified what kind of baked goods he had consumed -- but he looks like a brownie kind of a guy.

It has nothing to do with whether or not weed is performace enhancing. The International Olympic Committee is extremely diligent about making sure the competitors are clean. Use of any banned substance, performance enhancing or not, is deemed to be against the Olympic movement and Olympic Spirit. Every athlete that enters those games KNOWS that they could get tested and that Marijuana is a banned substance. It was no secret so why even take the chance. Being an Olympian is about hard work, sacrifice and dedication and if you're not dedicated enough to stay clean the weeks leading up to the games then you deserve whatever criticism come your way when you test positive for something you know is illegal

In all fairness, why would someone work that hard, for that long, and then blow his chances at a gold medal to have spiked brownies? He must have been some major competition for someone to risk some heavy duty prison time.

People trick other people into eating pot brownies all the time, nothing new :D
Either way it shouldn't matter, booze has more potentially negative effects on your body, mind and spirit than marijuana does...do we kick people out for having a drink?

if he did it and thought it wouldn't show later in his drug testing shame on him!
and if he has friends (who disrespected him and his years of training for the Olympics) that thought it would be fun to do that- then it's tragic and he needs to get some new friends
but if he and his freinds area ll potheads
then he more or less broght it on himself
...
if his friends know the truth they chould just come out and say so
because rather than make all of them look like uncaring idiots with fingers pointing at them and everyone judging them for this...they just might have some video of him willingly and knowingly partying with them instead
if so...fear not...it will surface!

Back in the day, I ate my fair share of laced baked goods and was ALWAYS able to smell and or taste it. One batch of chocolate chip cookies had a green tint to them. Maybe he's telling the truth, but unlikely.

Another life ruined due to the unjust Prohibition laws of Cannabis. Cannabis is mother earth's gift to us so we don't have to depend on Manufacturer prescription drugs.

Here are just a few of the many highly motivated athletes whose drug of choice is cannabis/marijuana:

* Usain Bolt, the 2008 World Record holder of the 100 and 200 meter sprint.

* Michael Phelps, the most decorated swimmer ever with 14 Olympic gold medals.

* Tim Line***, the National League baseball’s Cy Young Award winner for 2009.

* Santonio Holmes, the Super Bowl XLII’s MVP.

* Mark Stepnoski, two-time Super Bowl champion. "I'd rather smoke than take painkillers."

* Randy Moss, NFL single season touchdown reception record (23, set in 2007), and the NFL single-season touchdown reception record for a rookie (17, in 1998). Moss has founded, and financed many charitable endeavors including the the Links for Learning foundation, formed in 2008.

* Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the NBA's all-time leader in points scored (38,387), games played, minutes played, field goals made, field goal attempts, blocked shots and defensive rebounds. During his career with the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers from 1969 to 1989, Abdul-Jabbar won six NBA championships and a record six regular season MVP Awards. He has a prescription to smoke marijuana in California, which he says he uses to control nausea and migraine headaches. He has been arrested twice for marijuana possession.

Marijuana is used by the majority of top sportspeople everywhere:

* "I just let him know that most of the players in the league use marijuana and I have and do partake in smoking weed in the offseason" - Josh Howard, forward for the Dallas Mavericks. Howard admitted to smoking marijuana on Michel Irvin's ESPN show.

* "You got guys out there playing high every night. You got 60% of your league on marijuana. What can you do?" - Charles Oakley (Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, Toronto Raptors, Washington Wizards and Houston Rockets)

* "I personally know boxers, body builders, cyclists, runners and athletes from all walks of life that train and compete with the assistance of marijuana," —WWE wrestler Rob Van Dam

* Some of the best cricket players of all time, like Phil Tufnell and Sir Ian Botham, have admitted to regularly using marijuana to deal with stress and muscle aches. In 2001, half of South Africa's cricket team was caught smoking marijuana with the team physiotherapist. They were celebrating a championship victory in the Caribbean.

It's Dave

It's not like he was going to gain a competitive edge in Judo by eating pot-laced brownies. Until Video Gaming becomes an Olympic sport they should just exclude weed from the list of drugs they check for.

When they said pot brownies I thought they ment the brownies were made in a pot. Not a browny dish.

Although the headline reads, I didn't mean to eat those weed brownies, the end of the article says he never specified what he consumed. It could have been in anything. Once again, TMZ embelishes a non story to make it seem like this kid is a weed freak. Nice reporting, TMZ. Hope none of you ever have to take a drug test.

If you're training for the Olympics, should you really be eating brownies lest weed brownies?
