'Tonight Show'

20 Staffers Get

The Boot

"The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" is suffering some major setbacks -- 20 staffers were just canned from the show and even the big man himself had to take a pay cut ... this according to reports.

The firing of staff members was a decision made by Comcast -- the company that owns NBC -- while they try to assess the value of their investment, says The Hollywood Reporter.

In light of the firings, it was reported that even Leno himself took a huge pay cut from his reported $30 million salary to try and save as many jobs as possible. Leno has said for years he banks his salary from NBC and lives off the money he makes from his busy personal appearance schedule.

"The Tonight Show" is consistently on top in the ratings, though its audience does tend to skew older.

High ratings mean nothing if the advertisers do not like the demographic. The "wrong" ratings can hurt the shows $$$ as much as no ratings.

Leno & Letterman need to step aside already and live off the inters on their $30 M salaries they have earned for the last 15 years

Comcast needs to take a serious look at MSNBC. It's hard to believe that they get any income from sponsors.

Comcast can afford to pay everyone double and didn't need to fire anyone. If they don't have enough liquid cash available, they need to sell off part of their holdings. The only reason they may not have cash this second is bc they are spending it expanding their other evil empires. It's not Jays fault they are pulling this BS. And his show is still great and the writing is better than any other talkshow out there...PERIOD btw.

I don't watch. Interesting man, but he hasn't been funny in years. Last time I saw a clip, I was stunned by how much he resembled Ted Kennedy.

Jay never touches his pay from there, he lives off of his other performance money. So him taking a pay cut is no big deal.

Geezus... does anyone at TMZ have ANY brains? Companies don't fire people WHILE they're trying to assess value; they fire people & cost cut AFTER they've assessed value & want to increase it. Speaking of value, the TMZ chimpanzees who post these stories without using their brains are completely worthless. If any people deserved to be fired, they're the ones...

Here's a good one: "Leno himself took a huge pay cut from his reported $30 million salary"
So, he just banks his $30 million a year. Well, if he doesn't need it, obviously, why does he even receive it?? He's a douche.

Jay Leno had the #1 show on NBC. Conan was promised the spot in five years, with the thinking that Jay would tank by then but he didn't, he was still #1. Then they give Conan the show, it FAILS completely, because he isn't funny and his demographic doesn't watch late night TV, they're too young! Jay did nothing wrong here, if you want to place blame, Conan shouldn't have temper tantrumed his way into a show he couldn't handle, and let's not forget NBC CEO Jeff Zucker, who arranged the whole thing, and was FIRED!
