LeVar Burton OUTRAGED

Over Romney PBS Attack --

He's Destroying Our Kids!

EXCLUSIVE

Former "Reading Rainbow" host LeVar Burton is PISSED after Mitt Romney threatened to cut PBS funding last night -- telling TMZ, Romney would be stealing an invaluable educational resource from underprivileged children.

LeVar tells us, "I am personally outraged that any serious contender for the White House would target as part of his campaign the children of America in this fashion."

"Educators across the country, as well as millions of children and adults know that the programming on PBS has been responsible for significant improvements in education, literacy, math, science and life skills for generations of our children."

In case you missed the Presidential debate, Mitt promised to cut funding to PBS claiming it isn't an essential government expense -- but LeVar's firing back, claiming, "PBS represents .00016% of our nation's budget, yet this free resource benefits kids across all economic circumstances."

He adds, "Defunding PBS directly punishes the less fortunate by removing this trusted and extraordinary educational resource available to all."

"On behalf of America's children, I can't stay silent. I encourage you to join me in fighting this short-sighted and frankly mean-spirited attack on our children."

The idea of defunding PBS didn't originate with Romney. It's been talked about for years now. The argument is that PBS does not NEED those government/citizen funds. They have plenty of funds from other sources. They are in NO danger of closing down if the government does stop sending them our money. They have turned into a politically left-leaning tool, supported by money that is not supposed to go to political groups. The tax money needs to be spent on things that the citizens NEED. LeVar continues to be a bug-eyed ignoramus intent only on supporting his black candidate. He does not know ANY facts about this situation.

A lot of the shows on PBS are multi-million dollar companies. Sesame Street is the leader with a ton of momey being made off of their muppets products and movies. Pretty sure they have a ton of money to throw into pbs and keep it running forever.

ALL school funding should be stopped immediately!!! You have kids....you pay for them! Why do I have to pay for your kids to go to school.....makes no sense whatsoever. Close all "public" schools!!!

I'm paraphrasing someone else's quote, but cutting funding to PBS is like deleting text files to free up space on your 500 GB hard drive.

What does it say about Romney's policies that he wants to cut funding for PBS but wants to increase spending for more bombs, bombs, bombs. IMO we need public television to balance out the reality TV and TMZ's of the world

Things like PBS' govt funding are a perk of being a strong, economically solvent country. With the U.S. debt and deficit levels, those funds could be better used elsewhere - like back in the pockets of taxpayers. It's 'want' vs. 'need', folks. Don't confuse the two.

PBS is flush with cash, time to get off the government boob and start paying their "fair share"

I can only get PBS if I pay for it. Therefore, I pay for it twice, once on my cable bill and again with my taxes. Yes, we need good programming, but it has always been a tool for advancing the left's agenda. Of course they always go to Big Bird when making their arguments. Please, Sesame Street is just as much a huge commercial for their products as it is a learning tool.

MADE MAN

Romney is a dick head who will crush anyone's dreams to make sure his lifestyle is maintained. Why make innocent kids suffer??? It's like he's a monster not only to the middle class but to anyone whom he feels like is beneath him. I used to think it a race issue until I realized blacks aren't the only people suffering. It's a money war to Romney he's in it to make sure the wealthy stay on top. I support some of his theories but being independent Obama has my vote.

I worked at PBS in Los Angeles in 1994, when the federal government cut major funding to PBS. Guess what we lost? KCET went from having 34 Vice Presidents to 4 Vice Presidents. The other 30 had barely ever made an appearance at the station. They were political appointments and favors for friends of California state politicians. Government at work...
