Emanuel Steward -- one of the most famous trainers in the history of boxing -- has died.

Steward was a god in the boxing world -- training superstars like Thomas "The Hitman" Hearns and Wladimir Klitschko. He was also a popular ringside commentator.

According to reports, Steward had recently been hospitalized for a stomach disorder.

Klitschko has released a statement saying, “Boxing has suffered a tremendous loss with the passing of Emanuel Steward.”

Emanual's sister tells TMZ ...Steward passed away at 2:46pm with his family and chief doctor surrounding him ... noting, "He was at peace and in no pain."

She adds, "I deeply miss my brother but am overjoyed that he willingly went with God this afternoon.  Thank you for your prayers and concern."

Steward was 68.

Rest in Peace Emanuel. He played a giant part in making boxing as big as it was in the 80s and 90s

RIP, Manny. People will remember you not only for all the world champs you trained, but also for the dozens of young men you saved from the streets of Detroit, for whom the Kronk Gym was an adoptive family.

Poor guy died TWICE in one day. RIP. I got to meet Emanuel Steward a few times many years ago. One of the nicest sweetest guys ever. I worked with him for about 30 minutes once, then a year later again and he even remembered my name and what we had talked about a year prior ( the "pushing straight arm"). RIP, again. ;)

Sad news to hear as a boxing fan for many years. You're contributions to the sport as both a trainer and a commentator will forever be remembered. RIP
