Jared Loughner
-- the guy who shot Rep. Gabrielle Giffords -- has just received SEVEN LIFE SENTENCES for last year's Arizona shooting, in which he killed 6 people and injured 13 more ... plus an additional 140 YEARS.

24-year-old Loughner pled "guilty" in August after being treated for his schizophrenia.

The shooting took place back on January 8, 2011 in Tucson. Loughner opened fire in a Safeway parking lot, where Rep. Giffords was holding a constituents meeting.

Giffords and her husband -- along with several other victims -- were present in court for Loughner's sentencing.

Her husband Mark Kelly addressed Loughner in court, saying, "You may have put a bullet through her head, but you have not put a dent in her spirit, and her ability to do good."

Loughner was originally charged with 49 criminal counts including first-degree murder. Today, he was sentenced for 19 counts, including attempted assassination, 1st degree murder of 2 federal employees, and attempted murder of 2 federal employees. The remaining counts were dismissed.

Loughner will not get the death penalty.

Giffords last appeared publicly at the 2012 Democratic National Convention.

After killing 6 and injuring 13 people, I don't see the point of housing and feeding him for the remainder of his life. If he is not going to get the death penalty then why can't we use, at the very least, as a military mine sweeper. :)

I can't get enough of Giffords doing the pledge. By far, one of the funniest things TMZ has ever posted!

I am sick of hearing about Gabrielle Gifford, like she was the only victim in this crime. There were others who died, and they are never mentioned.

She and Mark Kelly need to go away and quit trying to get all the recognition they can out of this. Kelly has already wrote a book…that is no surprise. Stop making money off this and just go away.

MC GRUNT

Why isn't he called the Christina Taylor Green Shooter after the 9 year old girl he killed? Oh I know that would only be if the official shot was a Republican.

The civilian deaths were not dismissed, it was just that there was no need to hear them, because the shooter already has a sentence that will exceed his lifetime seven times over. The sentencing will not change by way of hearing the subsequent victims, so there is no need to spend government resources redundantly. As well, there is no need to put the victims through the public exposure, so I don't understand why anyone would complain about that.

Why dont they just lock him away in a mental institution and force him to stay medicated.
The guy is mentally ill and had no control over his actions, why such a long sentence in prison.
