8:30 AM PT -- Law enforcement sources tell us ... cops are NOT planning on conducting a criminal investigation into the death at this point ... and believe there was no foul play.

We're told a post-mortem examination (autopsy) is currently being scheduled and is expected to be conducted in the next few days.

Meanwhile, Kate and William's rep has issued a statement on behalf of the royals saying they are "deeply saddened" by the news ... adding, "Their thoughts and prayers are with Jacintha Saldanha’s family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time."

A nurse at the hospital where Kate Middleton was treated for morning sickness this week has been found dead ... and suicide is suspected -- after she mistakenly transferred a prank radio call to Kate's hospital room.

According to law enforcement, the woman was found dead at an address near King Edward VII hospital, where she worked, around 9:30 AM this morning.

Paramedics were dispatched to the scene but were unable to revive her. Scotland Yard is treating the death as a possible suicide.

The woman -- a nurse identified as Jacintha Saldanha -- was the victim of a prank by an Australian radio station, which called King Edward VII hospital on Wednesday pretending to be the Queen of England (with a terrible accent) and asking to speak to Kate.

The nurse immediately transferred the call to Kate's room, where another nurse then nervously explained Kate's condition over the phone. The call was broadcast all over the planet.

The radio station issued an apology just hours after the prank aired, saying, "We were very surprised that our call was put through. We thought we'd be hung up on as soon as they heard our terrible accents. We’re very sorry if we’ve caused any issues and we’re glad to hear that Kate is doing well."

Kate was released from the hospital yesterday.

I send my sympathies to the nurse's family, and I hope they can be able to find peace through this tragic situation. It's sad that we live in a world where we feel we the need to over-exalt human beings. The Royal Family are just humans like us, we waste too much time putting them above us. That being said, DJ'S didn't force her to kill herself, they themselves were surprised that their prank went that far. They didn't know what the outcome of it would be. This radio show always does pranks, and now people want to complain about it? It's just a tragic end to a joke that unexpectedly went further than both parties could have suspected.

idk how it is over there but I know in our hospitals here, you have to have a certain code to give the nurses when you call to get any information on a patient. If you don't have the code then you don't get the information. It would prevent something like this from happening. That should be standard at any hospital!

Having said that, this lady didn't have to end her own life (if in fact that is the truth behind what really happened). NOTHING is worth ending your life over. NOTHING!! I am secure enough in myself to know that no matter what anybody says about me, I am a good person. No matter if I did something wrong, I am secure enough to say mistakes happen. There are far more outlets to this than taking your own life. The two at the radio station should lose their jobs as well for creating this whole thing to begin with. There's just people you can "prank" and people you can't...obviously someone with a title like the royal family, you can't.

The royals should have gotten a private doctor and med staff to care for Kate at the palace - give her IV fluids, monitor vital signs, bloodwork and give her an emesis basin. This would have prevented the paparrazi and media from further obsessing with Kate. Checking her into the hospital resulted in this being a sick spectacle and one of her nurses dead. This is sad.

This nurse had more issues than a prank phone call. Who would really kill them self over that unless they had other major issues? Either way prayers to her family and friends. So sad when a person feels that is the only choice they have left.

She wasn't even the one pranked!!!!!! She QUICKLY TRANSFERRED the call! I don't see how she was humiliated at all...if she committed suicide, it was NOT because of these DJs or the prank call.

Very sad. As a Nurse, I understand the importance of medical confidentiality. Every news organization that played the tape of that nurses voice invaded The Duchess' medical privacy. A nurse assigned to the future Queen, and the unborn Heir to the throne, is no doubt a woman of utmost integrity. I dare say, none of us know what it is like to be humiliated the world over. God Rest Her Soul! What a horrible way for The Duchess to begin what should have been a wonderful time of her life!!

Let me get this straight, this woman commits the most selfish act in the world and you blame the practical jokers. The jokers are fools, the world is horrible, but suicide is forever. The joke was over yesterday. Her family is being punished now.

Did the nurse get fired? Otherwise why would she kill herself?

IMO what they did was a form of bullying. Lying in wait, directing from afar so they can push when the unsuspecting person digs their own grave. I'd post their pics on billboards with "MURDERERS" across it. No more work for them. Ever. Bye bye, you meaningless idiots. Rot in hell.

This is such a story, Now TMZ has to join in on the prank by having the phone call posted on their website for all to listen to again and again. In respect of the deceased, one would think they'd rise above the temptation of perpetuating a prank gone wrong and remove the link. Shame.

ummm?!

I'm sure the embarrassment and humiliation was bad enough for her. But then she probably got severely reprimanded from her Superior/Supervisor for the mistake. With the added fear of losing her job or being unemployable in that field was probably more than she could handle. Prayers for her family and friends.

Foul play, the nurse probaly had issues of her own and the prank was just her last straw, but this no way had to be the cause of her suicide. Ppl need to stop bring hypocrites, it was a prank gone wrong.
