CT Shooter Adam Lanza

Learned How to Fire Guns

... From His Mom

12/16/2012 12:55 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF
breaking news

1216_adam_lanza_mom_abcMass murderer Adam Lanza learned everything he knew about firearms ... from his mother.

Adam's mom, Nancy Lanza -- who was Adam's first victim -- was an avid gun collector who reportedly bragged to friends and neighbors about her weapons and took her son to several firing ranges to teach him how to shoot ... in the months leading up to his deadly assault.

One of Nancy's neighbors, Dan Holmes, told the NY Post ... Nancy was a gun enthusiast ... an avid collector ... often taking her kids to the gun range, infusing them with her obsession with firearms.

Adam used several different guns when he opened fire on Sandy Hook Elementary school earlier this week ... all of which were registered to his mother.

The United States has the loosest gun control laws of all developed countries. In the US, there are virtually as many guns as there are people. According to FBI crime statistics, 8,775 of the 12,996 murders that occurred in the U.S. in 2010 were caused by firearms.

With a gun being the weapon of choice in so many of the homicides in the United States, consider other countries, with stricter gun control laws, and how murders involving firearms there are much lower.

Japan - In Japan, most kinds of guns are illegal, and almost no one owns a gun. Japan is known as one of the strictest gun controlling nation in the world, with only 0.6 firearms per every 100 people. In 2006, there were only two homicides caused by guns in Japan. In 2008 there were 11. The country has nearly eliminated murder by firearms.

United Kingdom – The rate of private gun ownership in the United Kingdom is 6.72 firearms per 100 people. In 2009, only 18 people were murdered with a firearm. Within the last 14 years, the year with the highest number of gun caused homicides was 2004, with 52 people killed.

Australia – Ranked at No. 25 in comparison of number of privately owned guns in 178 other countries, about 15 out of every 100 Australians owns a firearm. Annual homicide rates involving firearms in the country is relatively low, at 0.1% per every 10,000 in 2009.

Germany – Ranked No. 4, in a comparison of the number of privately owned guns in 178 other countries, approx. 30 out of every 100 people in Germany own a firearm. Germany experiences far fewer gun related homicides annually than the United States. In 2010, there was a total of 158 homicides committed with a firearm.

United States – The United States is ranked at No. 1 for civilian gun ownership in comparison with all other industrialized countries. There are approximately 88.8 firearms for every 100 people in the U.S. In the past 14 years, the year with the greatest number of homicides caused by a firearm occurred in 2006, when 10,225 people were killed by the use of a gun. Annual firearm suicides within the United States are high as well. In 2005, 17,002 suicides were committed using a firearm.

The United States far surpasses other countries in terms of gun related violence and death. The numbers above tend to indicate that fewer gun-related homicides is a direct result of stricter gun control laws.

A particular quote by Benjamin Franklin says, “Anyone who will trade freedom for security deserves neither.”

Although the freedoms enjoyed in this country must be protected and upheld, statistics show that personal security within the United States is greatly hampered by lenient gun control laws.

Oh my gosh. Stupid is as stupid does applies to some posting here. There is one race when it comes to violence. The HUMAN race. Its one of the ways whites, blacks, Asians,-ALL races-that we are alike; having violent persons that committ incomprehensible crimes. These type of people have been with us from the beginning-Cain killing his brother Abel in a fit of jealousy. We have made some inroads in identifying these people but normally only AFTER they have committed vile acts. Our jails are full of mentally ill people along with evil people. The difference. Mentally ill cant seem to help what they did and in some cases with medication and counseling can feel genuine remorse over their crime; whereby evil enjoys what they did and would do it again given the chance-ie pedophiles who should never ever see the light of freedom again in their lifetime. But the one consistency of race is that evil exists across the board in humans. This racial commentary going on here is senseless and especially offensive when introduced into this horrendous account...the slaughter of babies.

Assault weapons are against the law and only those that pocess a license can have them. An Assault Look Alike weapons are leagal. they do not operate like an assult weapon. if the sight of something scares you so bad you need help. the guns sold in stores only look like the military weapons and don't operate the same way. Lee Harvey oswald took a bolt action rifle and was able to crank off 5 or 6 rounds in a matter of seconds. Unless you plan to ban all firearms then you are dreaming. also we can stop the ship loads of drugs into this country how to do expect to prevent the holds of those ships and trucks from having assualt weapons made in countries like Iraq and Iran china the former ussr.

Trying to change gun rights will be a big FAIL. It will not change a thing. What we need to do is make schools safer like adding bullet proof windows, armed guards, metal detectors and scanners. And turn class rooms into panic rooms.

Wow, that's real f*cking nice to instill in your f*cking kid. Now several f*cking children are dead, parents lost their babies, courageous people dead trying to protect these children from a monster you created and now you are gone too. not saying it is ALL her fualt because he did make the decision to be a murderous, heartless f*ck but taking your kids out, teaching them and showing them this sh*t is not a good idea. Obviously. I understand hunting sometimes or having a gun in a safe place for protection but this, this is just too hard to take in after all that happened because of this. It hurts 100 times more, when it is something that could have been avoided.

This is bull. Every man in America knows how to use a gun. Guns don't kill people, people kill people.

I plan to teach my kids to shoot. I own one gun for personal protection which I keep in my home. Something went terribly wrong with Adam. But I'm keeping my gun.

I have a gun, will teach my kids how to use it, it's in my house. My job is to make sure my kids get mental health treatment if they need it.

The laws definatly need to be made stricer on guns in the America. My brother in law had 4 guns for when he went hunting he had to have a license for them as everyone has to have In England when my brother went to live with him for a WEEK the police got in touch and told him he had to be out of the house straight away or the guns and the license would be taken away. If this idiot had mental problems why was he allowed to be around guns. Forgot my brother in law was the only one with a key to the safe they were kept in

So big deal she had guns, it was the fact that the kid was a loony and should have been aborted

This is TMZ's left handed way of politicizing the tragic deaths of 26 innocent victims killed by someone who was greatly influenced by Hollywood's glorification of weapons and violence.

**** YOU, HARVEY LEVIN!!! (_!_) !!!

And the guns should have been locked up!!!!!!!! So yes it is partly his mothers fault if they were accessible

Well that takes the argument of knowing how to shoot a gun out of the NRA's "if you only knew how to shoot, it would have prevented this" I think it's more on mental health. Even though I don't understand why a parent with a child who had mental health issues would want a gun in their house, perhaps we will learn more...
