Kelly Rutherford

Files for Bankruptcy

Divorce Did Her In

6/23/2013 12:50 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

0622-kelly-rutherford-tmzKelly Rutherford is broke and she's filed for full-blown bankruptcy, and it looks like her mega-fight over child custody was her Achilles' heel.

Rutherford claims in her legal docs -- filed with the court and obtained by TMZ -- assets totaling $23,937 -- dwarfed by debts totaling $2,021,832.

Kelly's current monthly income is $1,279.33 ... way down from her final season on "Gossip Girl" -- $486,000.  The show recently wrapped.

Here's the problem -- she spent nearly $1.5 mil on legal fees for her bitter divorce/custody war with ex-hubby Daniel Giersch.  We've learned she's asking the family law judge to make him pay, but now she's waving the white flag by filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

Kelly's also in the hole for income taxes -- more than $350,000 for 2012.  Add to that another $25,251 for Amex charges.

Kelly has a total of $11,487 in her checking account, around 5 grand in furniture, 5 grand in clothes and $1,500 in jewelry.

According to docs, she's borrowed 10's of thousands of dollars from friends and relatives to dig out of the hole.

The bankruptcy petition was filed last month.

Regardless of how she may or may not have mismanaged her money, as a mother myself, I feel for her not being with her kids. They are young and really need their mom. On the flip side-- this is a cautionary tale of what can possibly happen when you marry a piece of eurotrash or other foreigner.

We're all bullet--proof in L.A.

It'd take five or six more major, major issues.

To even get Kelly's attention.

en Todo Momento!!

dang. people are pretty dum. i mean why would you want to stuff the pockets of some attorney for your divorce, if you can make prearrangements and walk away with at least each half of 1.5 million??? i'd clear such problems in advance and hope my misfortune is not a jackpot for some arrogant law degree craptard.

i mean i'm just saying.. we all know who all the attorneys in america are. very 'strong' family core values. no 'divorces' from their side of the rainbow. so it's just totally weird to me that they are making one jackpot after the other over 'not their denomination' folks divorces. is that like totally schizophrenic, or is that just me...??? like you are raking in one fortune after the other off of 'destroyed family values', while you fill up the piggy bank in your 'perfect family unit values' communities/social circles with the cash from the other social circles. odd, or not?

$1279.33 a month...? I don't believe her. Isn't unemployment like $160...0.00 to $1800.00 a month if you made at least $40,000 a year before you were laid off?
