Usher's Son

Hospitalized in ICU

After Pool Accident

8/6/2013 1:45 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

's son Usher Raymond V is in the ICU at an Atlanta hospital after a serious accident in a residential pool Monday, TMZ has learned.

Sources tell TMZ, the accident occurred yesterday just after 2 PM in Atlanta. We're told Usher was not there at the time.

Here's what we know ... The child was playing in the pool with his aunt and saw a toy in the drain.  He dove down to get the toy and his arm got stuck in the drain.  The aunt immediately dove in to rescue him but couldn't get his hand out.  The maid then dove in and tried but was also unsuccessful.

The maid screamed for help.  Two audio-visual contractors working in the house came out, dove in and freed the boy.  One of them administered CPR immediately and rushed to the hospital.  The boy was "conscious, alert and breathing.  People connected with Usher tell us he rode with his son to the hospital in the ambulance, but according to the police report, Usher met his son there.

5-year-old Usher Raymond V is the oldest of Usher's two sons with ex-wife Tameka Raymond. We're told Usher and Tameka are currently at the hospital.

Doctors have been running a series of tests and doctors say he'll be ok.

This is the second accident to strike a child in Usher's family. Tameka's 11-year-old son Kile from a previous relationship passed away last year from injuries sustained during a jet ski accident.

Umm, as a parent I don't allow ANYONE to take my child swimming! Things like this occur when you aren't watching your kids and although it was something so simple as to getting a toy from the drain... The lil guy is in ICU because someone allowed him to dive for the toy! They would never be allowed to watch my child again! Also, the laws have changed regarding those types of drains and Usher needs to replace the drain cover because this is why apartments and community pools don't have those types of covers anymore, too many accidents like this and deaths too so some time ago laws were implemented... With his money and status Usher should be on it! Sad!!! Prayers for the kid!

Turn off the pool pump first when these things happen. They have suction strong enough to trap an adult

Lord Jesus, please keep those babies away from water. I know this was just a tragic accident, but still, so soon after Kile's death.

I'm glad to hear he is going to be ok. That had to be so scary for the little guy being trapped under water like that.

There's supposed to be a cover/screen over these intake/drains so this doesn't happen. I believe a LAW, not just a code, was passed because this was a somewhat common occurrence at one point. Hope the little guys ok.

Is this why black people don't like the water?

This was nothing more than an accident that could have happened to anyone and thank goodness the child is ok. He was properly supervised and the adult (aunt) got help and responded immediately. I don't see where anyone did anything wrong or is to be blamed...

Death by Jet Ski, sucked into a home swimming pool pump; I guess being rich and having all these toys isn't workin' out too good.

This could have happened even if usher was watching his child. All of you are saying you wouldn't let the nanny or whoever was watching the child watch him anymore. However, the aunt NOTICED something was wrong & jumped in to try and help him. When she couldn't she called for help. She did everything right. Yes maybe the drain needs fixed, I am sure it will be taken care of! Just because there is a water accident doesn't mean you should keep your children from water all together. Some of your comments are ridiculous. I hope & pray this child recovers fully & quickly.
