Stephen Colbert
has been named as David Letterman's replacement, taking over as host of CBS' "Late Show."

Letterman announced just last week he was retiring in 2015. According to CBS, Colbert is being given a five-year deal.

In making the announcement, Colbert said, "Simply being a guest on David Letterman’s show has been a highlight of my career. I never dreamed that I would follow in his footsteps, though everyone in late night follows Dave’s lead. I’m thrilled and grateful that CBS chose me. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go grind a gap in my front teeth.”

Colbert was part of "The Daily Show" from 1997 until leaving to host "The Colbert Report." Colbert has hosted that show on Comedy Central since 2005.

I give Colbert a month before he's back to CC, and that's being generous.

Maybe I'll actually watch the show now. Though I hope they get rid of Paul as well.

to those people that are insisting that his personality on the show will be much different than what we see on Colbert Report, I have to say you're way off base. I have sold Christmas trees to him and his family 5 out of the last 6 years and I can tell you from the lengthy experience and talking with him that he is NOT really in character, thats just how he always is. While his energy might be softened, his persinality and humor will be more similar to Colbert Report than your imagining.

Wow! I didn't see this coming. I can't imagine Colbert standing up. Not doing standup, just not being seated. I'll miss him as Colbert.

Not to be mean, but I've never found this Colbert funny. Of course it's been years since I've thought of Letterman as funny. I wonder what Ferguson (really) thinks about this. To me Ferguson is the only funny guy in latenight.
