10-Year-Old Skate Phenom

Diagnosed with Concussion

... After Scary Skate Crash

6/23/2014 10:03 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

0623_asher-bradshaw_tmz10-year-old skateboard phenom Asher Bradshaw was taken to a hospital and diagnosed with a mild concussion after a frightening collision during a competition this weekend ... this according to Asher's manager.

As we previously reported, Asher -- who shot to superstardom after pulling off a 900 earlier this year -- smacked his head against a wall HARD when he collided with another skater during an event in Venice, CA.

Despite the pain, Asher picked himself up and continued with the competition -- and iced down his spine and fingers.

Now, Asher's manager tells us ... after the event, Bradshaw was taken to Children's Hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with a mild concussion.

We're told ... Asher is currently "at home resting in accordance with doctors' instructions."

When this story was first posted here, many of us said he should get checked out at the hospital. Glad someone finally got smart.

These extreme sports are so dam dangerous. Just takes a second for a devastating injury to head/neck or spine. I can appreciate this boys passion, but at the end of the day I would ask him if it was REALLY worth the higher percentage of injury in future. Good luck to him for sure!

Action Dad

He should not have skated after the fall. He looked concussed, and his parents and friend should have known that was a concussion fall. You should read about second impact syndrome and kids - he could have died if he fell again that day. If he were 18 or old, then fine...his call. At 10, he should not ride that day. This kid is going to be a star skateboarder - but if he does not take care of his brain after such injuries, he will be just another tragic story of a brain damaged athlete by a young age. Now, he has likely had a dozen concussions before this one...these start kids in the x games, they are testing the limits of how much head trauma that can be taken at a young age.

His parents should be arrested for child abuse for not taking him to the doctor as soon as it happened

They are very fortunate that this did not turn tragic. Once the brain starts to swell the damage is almost always permanent. I question parents and sponsors who allowed him to continue once he sustained the injury. He is a very lucky kid in that regard.

Can the parents be charged with anything or should Child Protective Services step in. The kid should of went to the hospital right after the hit and should had not been allowed to skate. The parents want to get rich of this kid I bet. They need some parent education classes.

A ten year olds brain is still developing and these X Games sports are way too dangerous for someone this young. The sponsors and parents do not realize this problem. I think rules need to be in place to protect the kids when parents are not able to parent correctly. I have children so I am speaking as a parent.

Irresponsible to let him continue on after a hit like that. Guess they never heard of brain bleeds or concussions. Glad he got checked out, eventually.
