Stephen A. Smith

APOLOGIZES for Dom. Violence Comments

'Foolish Is an Understatement'

breaking news

072814_stephen_a_smith_launchStephen A. Smith says his boneheaded comments about domestic violence were "foolish" -- and this morning he went back on ESPN to beg for forgiveness.

Smith got himself in some pretty deep trouble on Friday -- and really pissed off his ESPN co-worker Michelle Beadle -- who crushed Smith for implying that women can "provoke" domestic violence.

Now, Smith says he has realized the stupidity of his comments -- calling his diatribe the "most egregious error of my career."

In a 100 second apology on ESPN's "First Take," Smith says he doesn't truly believe that domestic violence is somehow a woman's fault ... and explains that he just did a poor job of expressing his true point of view.

The big question -- will Beadle accept the apology?

Of course Smith apologized after he provoked me to beat the fvck out of him. I'd be sorry, but the provocation was present and I had to act . . .

I lost some respect for him today. He should NOT have apologized. What he said was true, and he should have owned it.

None of what he said was wrong. Is a woman wrong if she hits a man or woman? Is that not provoking?

That's all you need to answer, because he stated if a man puts hands on a woman, regardless of her provoking him, the man is wrong. But it doesn't mean she has a right to do so. Some of you can't be that blind. If you're mad at Stephen, it's because you just don't like him. Doesn't mean what he said is wrong

There is much truth to what Stephen said and he should be commended for having the guts to say it! If people can’t deal with it, that’s tuff! He shouldn’t have apologized, that only adds to women’s ego!
A very good example, remember the elevator incident when Beyoncé sister? She behaved like an idiot!
