California's doing all they can to combat their historic drought ... and throwing shade at the problem may end up being the best solution.
The shade they're throwing aren't insults, but floating black plastic balls called "shade balls" ... making the reservoirs look more like a Chuck E. Cheese's ball pit than a drinking source.
The LADWP has released around 96 million balls into various reservoirs to reduce evaporation. The balls block ultraviolet light with a special chemical coating that also stops algae growth and helps them last for almost 25 years.
